Cannot get column images to expand to the edges of the page

  I want to make the images in this column group larger and therefore need to spread them out to the further edges of the page. When I try this, the images seem contained within a certain area and cannot expand to the edges of the page.

  Is this a consequence of the template I am using or is there a simple fix?
