Cannot get profile picture to change

  • Unknown's avatar

I finally got info that the profile picture is not really the avatar but a photo under the General Settings tab. I have changed it, but still the old photo is on the blog, after repeated attempts to change it (and, yes, clearing the cache and letting some time go by).

I cannot seem to get anyone from WP to respond.

    Can anyone help on this?

    Thanks very much.

It takes time for gravatars to change throughout the internet. Sometimes it takes days and we frequently get members posting here who do not know that. They expect to see an instant change. The first location we do see the change tends to be here in the forums. We cannot help you except to provide you with a link to the gravatar site FAQs.

This is not the gravatar; it is the profile picture under general settings.

    Can anyone help on this?

Also, does anyone know why WP does not respond to any support requests?

    Thanks.

    Hello again,
Let’;s try and work through this and resolve it if we can.
Below are the best practices for successfully uploading your Gravatar, Avatar and/or Blavatar images:

    (1) Choose an image that does not have any transparency in it and scales both up and down in size without losing definition. Prepare the image prior to uploading it and make sure it’s 512 x 512 pixels or larger so it will look the best in the widest range of uses.

    (2) The image filetype has to be either PNG, GIF or JPG. Make sure the file name contains only letters and numbers – no special characters – and make sure all letters are in lowercase.

    (3) Also make sure the image file name has an extension (Example – image.jpg)

Also, does anyone know why WP does not respond to any support requests?

If you have already contacted Staff then know there are millions of WordPress.com users and many seek Staff support for answers that can be found in support documentation and forum threads. The result is that Staff have a lengthy backlog and are working as quickly as they can to respond to support tickets.

I finally have the photo showing up but the cropping of the photo and the caption are off-center. How do I correct that?

(Also, I did not know you had even responded as above. Thank you. The WP site makes it look like you are writing to Staff.)

    Hi Paul,
When dealing with images it’s best to first compress them and presize them offline prior to uploading them into WordPress.com. If we do not do that then the cropper comes into play and image quality is lost. I can see your image and I’m not clear if it’s in a gravatar widget, image widget of a text widget. Please let us know which it is in as there are other Volunteers who will be able to help you size it correctly.

I don’t know the difference between a gravatar widget, an image widget and a text widget. I followed the directions that you and/or others suggested once everyone was clear about the issue. I think I figured it out.

The sidebar width in the Twenty Ten theme is 200 pixels. As your image is wider than the available space the result if before your eyes. To correct it you must open the widget and adjust the change the image width and height of the image so it “fits” into the 200 pixel sidebar width the theme provides.
