Cannot hide posts in top posts and latest posts widgets
-
Hi, I’m trying to hide posts with category ‘New words’ in the top posts and most recent posts widgets – I’ve set this under Visibility in the widget config, but it’s not having any effect.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there! The problem you’re having stems from the fact that the Posts in the “new words” category are cross-listed with other categories that you’ve opted to show in those widgets. You’d have to narrow those posts down to the singular “new words” category if you want the visibility rules to apply.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have other questions. Best to you.

Hi, thanks for looking into this. I’m not sure I understand, though – from what I can see, the New Words posts are only in the New Words category. See eg the post “New Words – 24 March 2014” – this is only in the New Words category, but it still appears in both widgets.

Ah! Thanks for clarifying.
So the “hide” function actually refers to the entire widget, not each item that appears within it. Here’s some information on widget visibility:
You can control which Posts are displayed in your sidebar with a Text widget. However, that would have to be regularly maintained if you wanted it to show Most Recent Posts.

Let me know if I can help further. Thanks much.

Oh, I see – that’s a chame, i thought it was a way of filtering the list. Has that not been requested before?

I have not come across the request before. However, I highly recommend leaving it on our User’s Ideas forum:

Thank you very much for the suggestion!
