Cannot I register to wordpress without setting up a new personal blog?

I invited one of my friends (let’s call it HisName) to be author of my personal blog. He received the e-mail, accept the invitation and, during the registration procedure, he saw that a website called hisname.wordpress.com was being created; but he didn’t want this!
In order that my friend be able to participate to my blog is it necessary that he set up his own blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The answer to your question is, no. WordPress.com lets everyone register for an account just using a username, but it isn’t required. By default, however, WordPress.com prompts the new users to register a blog that’s similar to the username they have picked. It’s for the best interest of that user as it helps lock down that address for them. I would assume that your friend, while registering, didn’t notice the option to opt-out and register just his username.

But now that a blog has been created with his username, you can ask them to delete it or make it secret if they don’t like it. I would advise against deleting it as deleted blogs are irrecoverable. You can find how to do that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
