Cannot import from Blogger

I have my blog hosted via blogger on my own server, The above mentioned instructions worked like a charm. I exported from blogger and then went to http://blogger2wordpress.appspot.com/ and converted the file to wordpress. wordpress imported all two years of data successfully.

WOW! Looks like a lot of people are having the exact same problem I am having.

First off I tried the import, got as far starting to import where only one post and one comment show as being imported (but don’t show up under posts) and the it goes to ‘set authors’. My guess is that is not how its supposed to work.

I primarily use firefox but when I tried it on other browsers I got the message:
“The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

The site “http://wordpress.com” has not been registered.”

This is driving me crazy because I really want to get going with my self hosted wordpress blog.

I will give the method mentioned in this thread and let you all know how it goes.

I used the workaround provided to import, and it worked, but unfortunately it duplicated all of the posts I had already imported. (I import into wordpress regularly as my blog lives in two places.) When I try to delete the duplicate posts, it keeps adding them back in, so I’ll go from 400 posts, delete 5, and have 398 posts, delete 1, have 399, etc. Did anyone have a similar issue when they tried importing via this method?

I can’t seem to import. First Google is giving me the “has not been registered” comment.

Then I tried the work around and get A “server error occurred. Please contact the administrator.” which may be because the file is 2.8 MB (so it probably was not going to work anyway. What do I do???
I REALLY want to switch to wordpress, but if I can’t transfer over five years of posts, I don’t think I can switch.

We are all in the same boat here I guess. I have been trying for a week to import my Blogspot blog (the import XML file is over 8 MB). I can only assume like others that Google has changed the format of the Blogspot export file, but sure do wish WordPress could reverse engineer it so that we all could import our Blogspot posts! This is another good reason to leave Blogger for good, although they seem to be successfully preventing all of us from leaving!
    This sucks. :-(

Finally I got the import fix to work from Megansoandso, posted May 3rd…see previous posts.

It didn’t work at first;on my 2nd try, in my case, when it asked me to map the authors, I left the dropdown menu on “select” and didn’t choose my author name. Then everything imported…don’t know why, guess I confused things with the author name.

Thanks to megansoandso, now a legend!

i did what megansoandso suggested and it said that all was done. however, i can’t view the blogs i’ve imported! when i click on the link: HAVE FUN after uploading/importing the wxr document, it brings me to my wordpress blog but nothing is there.

is there a time lag when the posts will show? i’ve done the steps 2x and i’m afraid that everything would be duplicated.

    thanks a lot!

@arvis2009 on my first try i selected my name on the dropdown menu for the author, on my 2nd try, i just left it in -select-, still i wasn’t able to view my blogs. i don’t think they’ve really been imported.

I read what elleica wrote, did what megansoandso suggested, and it worked out fine here too!
I had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
    Thanks a lot!!!

I’ll add myself to the ever growing list of “it isn’t working” blogger importers. I had it set up and it was working fine until, it looks like, December. I tried to reactivate the auto import but get the same message as everyone else. I have not tried the work around because I really don’t want to deal with multiple posts of things that did import before Dec. Will keep an eye on this thread and hopefully see what the fix is.

    I got the same message.
It worked well up until a week ago, but then failed repeatedly after last week.

I’m afraid to even start importing from blogspot right now because my WordPress dashboard doesn’t even HAVE an import tool. Am I looking in the wrong place or missing something?

Before I found this discussion I found an old question and answer (2 years old) where part of the advice was to do it very early in the morning by US time (which I’m guessing means Eastern time probably, when the New York stock exchange opens). Do you think time of day makes a difference?

Thanks for any help, especially about the import tool

I am having the same problem. I have been using Import from Blogger regularly since January of this year with no problems. All of a sudden I cannot import anything. Same message as others from Google Accounts:

“The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows:

even though this site was registered… I have tried clearing cache, cookies, clearing out WordPress info, etc. and nothing is working. Does anyone even know whether this is a Google/Blogger change or WordPress.com change?

this is Text/Isle here again. I found the import tool this morning but following the instructions to export, I have it downloaded but when I go to blogger2wordpress.appspot.com it tells me to browse for the xml file and it’s just sitting in a download list and I can’t browse to it. It’s not on my desktop and the xml file won’t open from the download list OR let me save it on my pc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any further progress on this error:

    > The site “http://wordpress.com” has not been registered.”

Many of us in this thread have blogger export files larger than 2MB, often from blogs going back several years. We can’t “register” wordpress.com because it’s not ours to register, and Google isn’t recognizing xyz.wordpress.com which we can (and have) verified.

    HELP Please?

@textisle. It sounds like you’re using Firefox ‘Downthemall’ download manager in your browser. The .xml file will be wherever you have instructed Firefox to save downloads, Have a look in Tools > Options > Main. The download section should show you the location where the files are saved to. Good luck.

So, is this a “known problem” that is not going to be fixed?
