Cannot "like" other posts?

When I click the “like” button on a post I have enjoyed on another blog, a small blank window from Automattic opens up, and the like button does not work, even though I am signed into my WordPress account,

I’m happy to help troubleshoot this. First, can you pass along a link you’ve tried to “like” recently and experienced this issue?
Also, can you confirm that you are not using an incognito or private browsing window?

Hi,
I have been following another wordpress blog called “the hour of soft light”. When I click the “like” button on that blog, I get the blank window which says Automattic, Inc. followed by
https://wordpress.com/public.api/connect/?action=verify&service=wordpressAnd, nothing happens when I click the like button. Also just tried it on another wordpress blog, http://seekraz.wordpress.com
I’m not sure what an incognito or private browsing window is.

Can you take a screenshot of the error message and upload it to your Media Library? Instructions can be found here:
Also, can you make sure you’re signed in to WordPress.com when you’re clicking the “Like” button?

Hi Jeremy,
The window which opens when I click a “like” button, even when I am signed into wordpress, is BLANK, but OK!
It is in the media library for
uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.comAlso, when the blogs I follow are in the “reader” when I sign in, sometimes the like button from the “reader” page works. (Sometimes.)

Sorry for the delay. I am back at work. I just downloaded the Opera browser which DOES allow me to “like” other posts. Internet Explorer did not.Gabrielle

Can you make sure you’re running the latest version of Internet Explorer (IE 11)? Versions can be downloaded here:
Since you can “like” posts in Opera, I suspect this might be a minor issue with IE. Let me know if the browser version fixes the issue!

Hi Jeremy,
The link you sent installed IE 8 for me, which won’t open wordpress properly. Usually I use Firefox which is updated to 27.0.1
The computer is using Windows XP

I apologize. The Browse Happy link should have installed IE11. Can you confirm the browsers where you’re having trouble? It sounds like we’ve tested the following:
Opera – works
Firefox 27.0.1 – ?
IE 11 – ? -

Opera works. Firefox 27.0.1 does not. The computer I am using at work will not allow me to download IE11 –it looks like IE 8 is the best I can do –doesn’t work.

Can you copy the URL from the blank window and paste it here? That will help us to troubleshoot. From the screenshot, it looks like the URL ends with “verify&service=wordpress”, but I just want to confirm!

It appears like this might be a bug of sorts related to the Firefox browser. Our developers are currently investigating. I will let you know as soon as I know more!

Interesting. So, it doesn’t work from your work computer using Firefox 27.0.1, but it works from your home computer. Is that correct?
