cannot link to uploaded Word document
-
I have uploaded a Word document from my desktop to my WordPress library and copied the URL as a link in a test post. When I click on the link it takes me back to my pc desktop with the option to save the document. I want my readers to simply click the link and be able to read the document from my library. What am I doing wrong?

Hi there!
A Microsoft Word file can’t be viewed directly on a web browser without special plugins/software installed. It prompts you to download the file because it’s a Microsoft Word file. It’s working as intended.
To allow your visitors to view the file without having to download it, I recommend converting the Word file to a PDF file. Depending on your version of Microsoft Word, you may be able to save the file as a PDF directly, or you can use online tools to convert the Word file to PDF.
Once the file is saved as a PDF, you can follow the instructions at the link below to upload the PDF and embed it on your site.
You can embed a PDF document onto any page, post, or widget area of your website using a File block. Embed a PDF File In your dashboard, select Media. On the Media page, select the Add new button and upload the PDF file from your computer. Adding a PDF file to the Media Library Once the PDF file has uploaded, go to Pages (or Posts) and select the page (or post) you would likeHope that helps!
