Cannot link Youtube account to WordPress widget
-
Hi. I cannot link my Youtube account to WordPress widget. I entered the correct link of my Youtube but it says it is not a valid user when I click on the Youtube icon on my WordPress page.
Here’s my Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/XaiEvangelistaThanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The link you provided above is different from the one linked to in your social links menu on https://xaievangelista.wordpress.com/:
Your YouTube Account homepage — https://www.youtube.com/c/XaiEvangelista
Link social links menu — https://www.youtube.com/user/c/XaiEvangelista (YouTube account terminated message) -
I should have said:
The link you provided above goes to a different URL than the YouTube link in your social links menu on https://xaievangelista.wordpress.com/…
-
I only have one Youtube account. I wonder why it says the account is terminated when I could access it with no issues.
-
I’d suggest that you simply correct the URL in the social links menu, which should resolve the issue, and then ask YouTube about the message.
I don’t know if that notice refers to your account at all, or whether it be an automatically generated notice (through some glitch) when an incorrect URL is entered. Notice the difference in the URLs. Your YouTube account homepage is https://www.youtube.com/c/XaiEvangelista, while the other URL has an “user” extension between the YouTube domain and c/XaiEvangelista. Does your account have a “user” page? If so, then what is the URL?
-
The only URL of my Youtube is http://www.youtube.com/c/XaiEvangelista
This is also what is linked on my other social media accounts.
When I put it on WordPress, it just has to be /c/XaiEvangelista
— which does not work and says the account is terminated. But when I check my Youtube, there is no problem at all. -
When, a couple of days ago, I ran my cursor over your YouTube link in the social media links in the footer, I found the link URL to be
https://www.youtube.com/user/c/XaiEvangelista
and that is the URL that it went to when I clicked on it. It looks like you’ve removed that icon. Are you using the social media icons widget? If so, then WordPress.com might be selecting the wrong account link for the YouTube icon. If that’s the case, then this would be an error that should be reported to staff, and if I were in your shoes I would add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.Alternatively, you could use a text widget to create social media buttons, using the link URLs instead of the usernames which the Social Media Icons Widget depends upon. See the Add Social Media Buttons to Your Sidebar or Footer support page regarding the alternative method using a text widget.

When I add /c/XaiEvangelista on Youtube widget, it creates https://www.youtube.com/user/c/XaiEvangelista — when it should not have “user” in between.
It automatically adds “user” to the link causing it to not work. :(I already removed the Youtube widget.
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
For Youtube you need to use your channel ID, not the username. I’ve added a clarification to the support doc on this.
To find your channel ID, see here: https://www.youtube.com/account_advanced
Add ONLY the ID code to the widget. No / or channel/
