Cannot log at all

    Hi disc440,

The behavior you are describing occurs when you do not have third-party cookies enabled. It sounds like you have Chrome and Firefox allowing cookies but not IE.

Please take a look at our documentation on cookies here:

    Preview Problems and Third-Party Cookies

I checked this numerous times, and it’s enabled to accept third party cookies. I am just baffled with this. I may just have to make Firefox my browser of choice but I have worked with IE for many years and would prefer not to change. As I said before I suspect there’s something minor that is causing this, but I have no clue what. I even uninstalled IE 10 and went back to 9 but that didn’t help either. Appreciate your efforts to help….I will keep looking.

Back to square one….cannot log in AT ALL now. Was happy when I got the dashboard, but now I cannot access anything. Ready to give up with all this and go with Firefox. I just don’t understand why IE is giving me this problem. Thanks.

I tried resetting Internet Explorer..no help at all. I once again reset my password, and it worked the first time, and then it would not. Again it works in Firefox, Chrome and Safari but not IE. Please can somone come up with a clue? I have tried everything I can think of and everything people have told me to do.

I have found that by using the https setting my password is recognized and I can at least “get to” my blog, though not directly. It takes me to the page where I see all my “favorite” blog updates. I can of course get to the admin page from there and post if needed.

Now, given this, what do I need to do to get things back to normal. By that I mean for a year a half I had a desktop shortcut that would take me to my homepage and where I could see the dashboard listing at the top?

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, what I did was go back to the homepage (without the dashboard indications) add the “s” to http and seems like I am good to go again. Apparently the https was the difference. Is this something that just started with WordPress? Never had the problem before…

  • Unknown's avatar

Thought things were corrected…THEY ARE NOT. Now I can access my blog using the https instead of http but I

      cannot

access my dashboard at all. What is going on with Internet Explorer and WordPress? Please help. I have never had a problem and I am going on a year and a half.

Could you walk me through the process you’re using to log in?

To do this, please log out of WordPress.com. Then paste the exact URL you are using to access your site’s Dashboard, and let me know what happens. It would be especially helpful if you could include screenshots when things go wrong. Since you are having issues posting to your site, you can upload the screenshot to a free image hosting service like imgur.com or tinypic.com and post a link to it here.

    Take a Screenshot

One other question: have you tried using IE 10 to log into your blog on a different computer or at a different location? I don’t think it would matter but it would be good to know this.

Okay, first I have been unable to even log on to answer you. I have to use Firefox to log on. IE 10 will not accept my password. I can get to my blog by typing in https://stoutstandards.wordpress.com, but when I try to preview an update I get page cannot be displayed. Here again if I add the “s” to http it will show up.

Bottom line is that I have to jump through loops to get on to my blog and I never did before. There is something screwy with IE 10 and WordPress. Why Firefox and Chrome will accept my password and IE not is beyond me. I used to have a desktop WordPress icon that allowed me to get to my blog and showed the dashboard. No more…

If you have any clues at all let me know. I have been battling this now for over a week, and it should be that difficult to get to my blog….

    Hi again,

    Here’s a few more suggestions.

    1) If you have any extensions or add-ons for IE 10, try turning them all off.

    2) see if adding *.wp.com and *.wordpress.com to the Trusted Sites helps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-security-privacy-settings#ie=ie-10

    3) Try turning on/off Compatibility view: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-10

I have tried all these before, and tried them again now. I cannot enter *wp.com or *wordpress.com to trusted sites. I keep getting the message that everything must have the https prefix.

Frankly am baffled as to what caused this…I hate having to jump through loops just to connect. Internet Explorer has been my browser for many, many years.

And I am a Time Warner customer, not in the UK. I have Windows 7 with IE 10.

    Hi there,

What happens when you go to https://stoutstandards.wordpress.com/wp-admin using IE 10? Are you able to log in? Do you get any specific errors?

    Can you post a screenshot?

Note the https:// part of that URL.

  • Unknown's avatar

That does get into the admin page…and from there I can go to the home page with dashboard. However I still prefer clicking on a desktop icon and going right to my page…..guess that will never happen again.

    Hi there,

At this time, I’m not sure I have a workaround that doesn’t involve the https option. However, you can bookmark that address and use it each time you wish to log in, and it should work just as well.

Thank you Jackie…will keep you posted if I find a solution to my problem.

    Hi disc440,

That would be great! I do hope you can sort it out, but I’m glad you’re able to use IE 10 one way or the other.
