Cannot log in on my iPad with Safari or Chrome

Hi, for many months I cannot log into my websites from my iPad whether I use Safari or Chrome as the browser. The only way I can even like a post, let alone edit my website is by using the WordPress app. This is the same for my partner using his own iPad who wants to view my websites, to comment and like content but he too cannot log in to his WordPress account using his iPad. We’ve cleared the Safari cache, but it still doesn’t work. When we press log in, we submit our details but when we hit enter nothing happens, we’re still viewing the sites as a visitor would. As I run two sites I often want to log in and check or amend things without having to use my laptop, or WordPress app, but I can’t, and it’s not satisfactory really.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what is the problem is please?

I see you are able to log in to your WordPress.com account somehow (to be able to leave this message for example) so to clarify you are using a different device like your computer instead?
On your iPad, what is the URL you are visiting to try and log in? From the WordPress.com homepage?
Are you able to log in using this direct link using your @leonazombie username and password? https://wordpress.com/log-in

Hi Jerry, thanks for getting back to me. I indeed did use my laptop to post this question but I can log into this forum on my iPad. I have my sites bookmarked and a link icon on my iPad. I click it from there to log in and it doesn’t work. I go to Chrome and click on the bookmark and cannot log in. If I type the urls into my browser on my iPad, either Safari or Chrome, I cannot log in. I just used the link you supplied – (http://wordpress.com/log-in) and it worked! So now I’m even more confused!? What’s going on? I appreciate your advice.

What is the URL you are normally trying to use to log in? It sounds like it is different than the one I gave, so possibly if you can share with me the URL you are starting from, and the steps you are taking there, it will offer a clue.

Thanks for your reply :) I’m clicking on the bookmark to bring up the site and using the little pop up in the bottom right hand corner that gives me the option to follow, log in, sign up, report etc. I used to be able to use this method to log in but it stopped working a few months ago. My partner has the same issue too. Any ideas?

It’s obvious your bookmarked link on your iPad isn’t correct. So remove that bookmark and make a new one for https://wordpress.com/log-in

Thank you for your input staartmees, however it doesn’t work when I type the web address into my iPad browser, either Safari or Chrome, as I mentioned previously. And it used to work until a few months ago. One of my sites is new so I’m using a new bookmark and it still doesn’t work. I have deleted and remade the bookmarks several times, and that didn’t work either. So it’s obviously not my bookmark. What isn’t working is the little pop up widget in the bottom right hand corner and I’d like to know why, as it worked fine before.
Any other theories? :) -

As I’ve previously said I can log in with that link. I’ll explain myself yet again. In Safari there is an option to add a website icon to the homepage screen on the iPad. So I have the icons to my websites on my iPad and I used to be able to click the little pop up which appears at the bottom right hand corner, which has three little dots. From there you can follow a site, log in etc. Well it’s that function that no longer works. It was how I easily logged into my sites, up until a few months ago when it stopped working. My partner has an iPad too an he cannot log in this way either, to like or comment on sites.
So that’s my problem. Any other ideas? -
I’m really not having any issue with that myself running iPadOS 14.3.
Are you using any content/ad blockers on your iPad that may be blocking this?

Curiously, if you go to https://wordpress.com/home/martonagames.com are you able to access that back end as though you are logged in?
I’m wondering if it’s an issue with third party cookies, since your login for martonagames.com is under wordpress.com. Perhaps you could check to see if you’re blocking those?

Supernova, when I type that url into my iPad browser it still opens up the site in the same way and I still have the same problem with the log in widget in the bottom right hand corner not logging me in, as I mentioned previously. Thanks :)

Sorted it! I went through the settings in Safari and unchecked everything….and I could log in. I’ve rechecked the things in the Safari settings I needed one by one but kept ‘prevent cross site tracking’ unchecked and now it works. I’ve logged in and out several times to recheck and it’s worked every time. Thanks for all of you who tried to help, I appreciate your time and effort :)
