Cannot log in to new (third, separate) blog account

I currently have two entirely separate WP.com blogs, each with its own username, password, and linked email. (did not want the blogs to be linked or associated together)
Last week I set up a third, also separate, blog account which has a different username and password, but it shares the same email address as one of the two existing ones.
Today I went to log in to the third blog to start setting up the site, for the first time since creating that account, and the login screen told me that the username and password do not match. I doublechecked to confirm that the username I am typing is the exact one that appears in the Account Confirmation email that I was sent by WordPress; it does.
It also does not accept the password if I try to log in using the email address (probably because it is associating that email address with the older blog account instead of the new one?). If that’s the problem I would change the email address on the third blog account, if I could only get into the account via the username (which for some reason isn’t being recognized.) :-(
Any idea why this is happening and/or how to address it? Thanks!

And now a new problem: I tried to do a password reset by entering the username associated with this third account, rather than the “shared” email address. But the Password Reset email never arrived, even though it SHOULD HAVE gone to the same email address that last week’s “Activate Your Account” and “Welcome to WordPress” emails were received at. Nothing in the Spam or Junk folders there either. WordPress definitely has that email address associated with that username, so why no Password Reset email?
So now I am totally up the creek. Help??

Update: Had to solve the problem by starting from scratch with an entirely new account/address. Apparantly there’s no good answer,LOL
