Cannot log into wordpress.com account only admin account

  • Unknown's avatar

I can log in as admin but cannot log in at wordpress.com (which apparently I need to do in order to activate Jetpack).
If I ask WP to send me an email reminder of my password by using my username I don’t receive the email. If I use my email address it sends me username for an old WP blog which I have cancelled/closed/deleted.

Its now been 4hrs!! I have gone into my host site and looked for another user name but the only one showing is admin.

If I try to open a new WP account it tells me that my username and email already has an account and to log in, I try to log in, incorrect password, password reminder using user name, no email received, use email, info for old WP account provided!! (and round and round in circles we go)!!

I have had to sign up for a new WP account with a different email just to be able to post in support forums.

About ready to smash my computer against the wall :-)

I have ticked the box to say I don’t have a blog because my blog is not linked to this WP account!

  • If I use my email address it sends me username for an old WP blog which I have cancelled/closed/deleted.

Though the site was deleted, your account would still be active.

So how do I get a password reminder for my current WP blog??

  • Your current self-hosted blog or your current WordPress.com blog?

WordPress.com can only provide password resetting for WordPress.com accounts. The link you need is here:

How do I get the password for my current WP.com blog?
As stated in my message above…
“….If I ask WP to send me an email reminder of my password [for WP.com site] by using my username I don’t receive the email. If I use my email address it sends me username for an old WP [self hosted] blog which I have cancelled/closed/deleted.”

So I checked out the link you sent, which is exactly the same link that I had been using….but I tried it again just for kicks and the same thing happens!

My self hosted WP is cancelled/deleted….why does it keep bringing it up??

This is really starting to get incredibly frustrating at this point as clearly it is a glitch in WP and it is preventing me from continuing on with building my web site.

  • What is the URL of your current WordPress.com blog?

    tidetothedock.com
I have a plug in installed to keep it in maintenance mode…do I needto disable it?

Let’s approach this a different way. If I understand your situation correctly, you are trying to connect a new self-hosted site (tidetothedock.com) to Jetpack, is that right?

If that’s the case you don’t need a WordPress.com site, you only need a WordPress.com username/account. Based on this thread, it looks like you have access to two WordPress.com accounts. mandiformoso2015 and mandiformoso you can use either to connect Jetpack.

The next step is to log into your self hosted site the way you normally would and click the connect to WordPress.com button. From there you can authorize the connection between your self hosted admin account and either WordPress.com account. There are more details on the Jetpack get started page

    http://jetpack.me/support/getting-started-with-jetpack/#connect-to-wordpress-com

One the connection is live, you’ll see your self hosted site listed on the “my sites” page of whichever WordPress.com user account you choose to use.

Let me know if you have any questions or run into additional problems.

So I logged into my self hosted site and could not find a “connect to WP” button anywhere!
However I have resolved this issue now thank you by going to my admin account, activating the plug in and there I found a “connect to WP” button, when they asked for WP log in details I used my old log in details from my self hosted site. It apparently makes no difference that this is not linked to my .com account in anyway!

This is the process that connected your new site to WordPress.com.

If you log into your mandiformoso account on WordPress.com you’ll see your new site listed there as well.
