Cannot make changes – “server maintenance”
-
Every time I try to do something with my blog, like deleting a post, I get the following error message. It has been far longer than a “few minutes.”
—————————–
Server MaintenanceYour server is going through a few minutes of routine maintenance. Please don’t touch your browser for a few minutes.
What do I do?
* If you were posting a comment or making a post on your blog then do not press BACK on your browser. Wait 5 minutes and press the refresh icon on your browser. Your comment or post will be sent as normal.
* If you are browsing a blog here just wait a few moments and hit refresh. The page you were expecting will appear. -
Yup, I was trying to post to my blog and ran into the same thing. The forums were down also, so it looks like things are starting to come back up. We’ll just have to be patient for a bit.

These things happen everywhere. However: would anyone have an informed guess about when we will be up and running again?
-
The forum has just been back up for a few minutes so there isn’t any word yet. I expect most of them are involved at the moment getting everything back online.

Says I can’t access my dashboard for the next 49 minutes. Lost an article. That kinda sucks.
-
Hmmm, maybe we’re in for a longer wait than I had hoped. Your article may still be there, but you won’t know until after the dashboard comes back. It autosaves your drafts ever 5 minutes. You might have lost some of it, but not all (unless you were writing for less than 5 minutes).
A suggestion: When you get ready to save a post, select all of the text and copy it to the clipboard (ctrl-c windows) or cmd-c Mac). That way if anything like this happens you can paste it into a text editor such as notepad or textedit.
-
And yet another reason to use an offline editor :)
I like BlogDesk for Windows.
Or Notepad (Windows), TextEdit (Mac), KEdit (Linux – KDE) all work well too. You’ll just have to type your html by hand (or paste it into the visual editor when you’re done and format it through there).
-
I was a late convert, but yes, offline blog editors will save you much heartbreak.
And when it says you cannot post because of server maintenance, there is not thing one you can do about it but wait it out. It takes as long as it takes. At least if you’ve got an offline editor you can still blog, and it’ll go live whenever the servers come back online.
-
I don’t think I will wait and instead go to bed and post in the morning. As with many software/hardware ventures, it may take longer than expected – or less. Not feeling like gambling tonight.

Sorry for the unexpected maintenance there. We had a power outage in one of our datacenters that took out a few of our database servers. Since these were master databases, we decided to take the admin areas of your blogs down while we re-synced the data with another set of servers. Only some blogs were affected and everything should be back to normal now.

Yay Barry! I just hit my publish button and my post zinged off through cyberspace and into my blog.
Thanks for the hard work and quick response.

My blogs been ridiculously slow for about a day now and I just got the original posters message.
You guys broken something again?! ;)
