Cannot map domain

Hi I am trying to map my current domain to my wordpress blog but I am having difficulty doing so. When I try to add a domain to map it I get the error message “Sorry moycullencentralschool.ie cannot be registered on wordpress.com”. Can you help me with this please.

It sounds like you may be following the steps to register a new domain instead of mapping it, which won’t work since you already have it registered elsewhere. Take a gander at the steps on this page to verify: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/.

I’ll go ahead and tag this for staff assistance. I’m not sure what would prevent the mapping, but the Automatticians will be able to route you to a solution. Make sure you’re subscribed to the thread here and give them a bit of time to respond.

I’ve mapped the domain and set it to expire a few days for now – could you go in and renew it for the whole year?
You’ll need to update the name servers with your domain registrar. This article explains how:

The name servers for WordPress.com are:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
If you’re not sure how to change them, please contact your registrar for assistance.
Once you have updated the name servers, it may take up to 48 hours for the domain to be pointed to your WordPress.com site.
