"Cannot open page"
-
I registered a new domain name yesterday : http://www.eulitigationblog.com. I bought it via WordPress together with domain mapping.
I’m still using it as my secondary domain. But when I type in the domain, my browser simply states “cannot open page” .
Is there anything else I need to do?
Many thanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
You bought the domain mapping too? Check the dashboard Domains page of your blog and see which domain is set as primary.
http://bartolus.wordpress.com/ works fine but it’s unclear if the domain mapping is active on it. And remember, it takes up to 72 hours for the DNS to settle down and work properly.
-
Thanks.
Yes I bought domain mapping.
It seems as if mapping is active on the secondary site. I guess I will leave it for a day or so for the DNS to settle.
But I don’t need to do anything, type anything in, do I ? -
By, the “bartolus.wordpress.com” is set as primary.
I would like to change that soon so that “eulitigationblog.com” is the primary. Is that done with just a click of the radio button or do I need to transfer all the data ?
Many thanks! -
Wait. WHICH blogs are we talking about? What “secondary site?” There is only one site of which I’m aware, http://bartolus.wordpress.com/
Did you buy the domain name from the dashboard of that blog, or from a different blog? Buying a custom domain does not create a new site.
-
Ooh! Now I’m confused.
Bartolus.wordpress.com is the free site I signed up with originally.
I bought the domain “eulitigationblog.com” yesterday via the dashboard of the bartolus blog.
Bartolus.wordpress.com is currently set as “primary”. “Eulitigationblog.com” shows up on the dashboard “My domains” of the Bartolus blog.
What I would like is the “eulitigation.com” to become the primary domain name and when readers use that, for them to be able to see all the posts currently on “bartolus.wordpress.com”. I take it that is impossible ?
Sorry if I’m being slow and dim… This is all new to me. Thanks for your help. -
Okay, it’s easy, not impossible.
Just set the domain you want as primary, in this case the custom domain. And wait. It’ll probably be fine by morning.

You’re welcome. Just review the steps and make sure you’ve gone through everything correctly: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

it looks like something went wrong in the registration process – I have flagged this for the staff to review your account
Hold Your Horses!
It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at eulitigationblog.com, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.
Domain Not RegisteredIt looks like the domain eulitigationblog.com has not been registered. You can register and associate it with your blog from your domain management screen.
What do you see at
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades
Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History -
It looks like you have purchased domain mapping for eulitigationblog.com. Domain mapping is the upgrade you would use if you had the domain registered elsewhere.
It sounds like this is not that case and you were trying to actually register eulitigationblog.com. Is that correct?
-
Thanks for looking into this again.
I wanted to do two things:
– register the domain “eulitigationblog”
And, get domain mapping.
I pressed all the requisite buttons to get both.
I have been charged €11 for domain mapping.
At My Domains, I see two domain names listed, “bartolus.wordpress.com” (primary) and “eulitigationblog.com” which states it is active until 12 July 2015.
Now I have just tried to register anew “eulitigationblog.com” via wordpress store but it says I cannot as the domain is already mapped to my blog “Bartolus.wordpress.com”.
What to do now ? -
Okay, can you give it another try?
Log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, enter eulitigationblog.com in the “add a domain” box and click the “add domain” button. Then simply follow the instructions that appear to register your domain.
Let me know if you have any trouble.

Many thanks.
I’ve had another go.
I’ll let you know if it works.
Your help is much appreciated. -
