cannot open pages

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I am unable to access published pages on my website. It appears that my About page is stuck, and no matter what other menu section I click onto, the page does not change.

I am a tad worried, as this webpage is part of an assessment for my course.
    Please help urgently.

    Thank you kindly,
    H.F.

    Hi dschubba11,

I would have to agree with you. There is something awry with the way your menu is behaving.

Did you use custom URLs to help with the menu navigation or did you use the Page/Post types for linking in the menus?

  • You’re experiencing this because the items that you have added in the menu are not pointing to any link or page.

You created new menu items and probably forgot to link/point them to specific pages, except the “historical risk” menu item which is indeed pointing to https://geohazardsadelaide.wordpress.com/historical-risk/ .

    • Please go to Menus section of your blog.
    • Edit each menu item including “Home Page”, “Locations” and select the page it should point to.
    • Don’t forget to click OK after editing each menu item and finally, the Save button once all items are pointing to a page or URL.

Thank you Daschulthemn and Ehtis for your reply.

I was adding pages under each menu without allocating them their unique URL link. I was unaware that this needed to be done and assumed they automatically were assigned when generated.

This is how I fixed it, thanks to your input:

From [My Site], select [menus] located under [Look and Feel]. A list of all menu tabs for website appear.
Select edit icon (pencil), then select [Link]. A URL box appears.
Enter address of page in field box. ie. http://%5Bwebsite name].wordpress.com/[menu name]/ *without [brackets or spaces]!
After each menu link edit, select [OK], then [Save].

One of my menus did not work using this method as I had changed the menu name once before and therefore the menu name did not match the page address. To work-around, I opened page from page edit feature to locate URL manually, and copy/paste link from address field.

    Cheers.
