Cannot paste text into post
-
When writing a new post and pasting either plain text or text from a Word doc into the post box on the Write Post page the post will not save or publish. Yet if I type directly into the post box the text does save and publish without fail. I have had this problem for the last 15 hours, but have never experienced it in the past. I am using a Mac and tried both Firefox and Safari browsers, only to yield the same unsatisfactory results.
What is going on?

Aside from the fact that you shouldn’t paste from Word (if it hasn’t caused problems for you yet, it will), you’re the second person in recent hours reporting a paste problem:

The problem there is different from yours, but I wonder if there’s a glitch in the editor itself. Have you tried pasting from Wordpad or another text editor?

Have you tried pasting it into the blog using the HTML editor instead of the Visual editor? That’ll also prevent all the problems normally associated with Word.

Maybe my answer is too simple…copy everything in your Word Document by using Ctrl + C and paste into the blog space by using Ctrl + V.
I haven’t actually tried this between a Word Doc & WordPress…but good luck :)

If your having problems with a .doc file save it as a .txt file in Word. Copy and paste from the .txt file. It works for me.

None of these suggestions worked when I tried them before posting this topic. I even tried saving the text in different text editors before copying it into the Write Post page. Nothing works. This is a recent phenomenon, I have never had this problem before 2 days ago.

Then you will need to report it to staff tomorrow. You won’t be alone. Hopefully they’ll fix it.

I have found same problem recently. I have used the “paste from word” button for ages, with no problems, but now the text comes with a load of stuff like pasted below, which mucks about with the formatting. I go into html editor and remove it, but it’s kind of annoying.

Word uses a lot of extra formatting codes that can cause problems when converted to HTML. We do not recommend writing your posts in Word.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/If you would like to write your posts locally, I would suggest using something like Windows Live Writer, which can publish directly to your blog.

This is an issue only with Mac platforms it seems. I finally did copy and paste successfully but when using a PC. As of this writing I cannot copy and paste or even upload images using a Mac. Very strange indeed.
