Cannot post anything but pages to menu

  I have tried and tried to create a “Photography” menu item on my blog to no avail. I have tried using the “Category” menu item as well as a “Custom Link” item, linking it to a category search result page. Nothing works.
  Tried creating a random test page and it was automatically added to the menu.
  Have tried from both the Old School Admin editor (my preference) and the new editor.

  Am I missing something?

  Hi,

  Tried creating a random test page and it was automatically added to the menu.

  If a page is automatically added to the displayed menu, then the displayed menu is the default pages menu, which automatically shows on some themes when a custom menu is not enabled. On Twenty Eleven, the default pages menu will display links to the following:
  1. the default home page, which has the URL of the site (item = “Home”),
  2. all published static pages, and
  3. the posts or blog page, if it is different than the home page.

  So, essentially, the solution to your issue would be to display the custom menu that you’ve added menu items to instead of the default pages menu. This may be done by choosing the custom menu you’d like to display from the drop-down menu labeled Primary Menu at Customize > Menus > Menu Locations, and then saving the change by clicking the Save & Publish button.
