Cannot post comments
-
In recent days I cannot directly post reply comments on my own blog nor comments on other blogs with “WordPress” in their url. When I click “Post Comment” dispaly opens a clear screen and says, “Sorry, this comment could not be posted.”
I can post comments on my blog from http://newjerusalem12.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php but this does not help with other WordPress blogs. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Our developers just fixed a bug that was preventing some users from posting comments. Are you still having trouble with this?
If you are, can you describe exactly what you are doing when this happens? Please go step by step, beginning with the URL (the address in your web browser) when you begin, what you click on next, and so on until you get the error message. It would also help us to know if you are already logged in to your WordPress.com account when this happens. Thanks!

Rachel, thank you for entering into this discussion.
I was able to post one comment this morning on my blog, starting from not being logged in. After deleting the test comment, I logged out.
However, I then went to http://arkandarchitecture.com/2013/07/09/god-and-christ-creation-and-miracles/ and wrote a comment. Next, clicked on the W below the comment box. A small window opened into which I entered my name and password. Then the display below the comment box had my picture and “Don: You are commenting using your WordPress.com account. ( Log Out / Change ).” I clicked Post Comment and a blank window opened with “Sorry, this comment could not be posted.” The tab heading for this window said “WordPress > Error.”
After closing all windows, but not expressly logging out, I went back to the same page of arkandarchitecture.com. When I clicked in the comment box, my picture appeared below it with “Don: You are commenting…” I was able to enter a comment, click Post Comment, and have the comment post.
ps: I will be away from internet a few days so I will not give you any more quick replies. -

Hi Don, thank you for providing those details. When you get a chance, can you try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies? After you clear them, can you try posting another comment using the same steps you mentioned above?
Please let me know if the comment goes through or not and we’ll go from there. Thanks!

Rachel, I cleared the cache and cookies last night. This morning I had no problem posting seven comments to four different WordPress blogs, both blog.com and blog.wordpress.com. Thanks for leading me through this.

The problem recurred yesterday and today in trying to leave comments on two WordPress blogs. I reset the cache and history two days ago. Today the error was at http://allthingsinchrist.org/2013/06/18/blogging-tips. I wrote the comment then clicked the WordPress W and put name and password in small window. I clicked “Post Comment” and got a clear screen with, “Sorry, this comment could not be posted.” I copied the comment text, clicked the circular arrow (“refresh”?) in the address bar of my browser. I pasted the text into the comment field and clicked “Post Comment.” The comment posted. If this “refresh” works it gives me a detour around “sorry”.

Hi Don, sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with this again. Thanks for letting me know! I am checking with our team now to see why this might be happening for you, and I’ll let you know what I find out.

Hi Don, sorry to send you two messages in quick succession, but I have a question for you: Do you have third-party cookies enabled in your web browser?
If you aren’t sure, you can check on this page: Preview Problems and Third Party Cookies
The commenting issue you describe may be caused by disabling third party cookies. Please let me know if enabling them makes a different for you.

Rachel, surprise that you are working on a Sunday. Thank you. (and I hope you do take some days off)
I use Safari for my blogging and the setting has been “Block cookies from third parties and advertisers.” I changed it to “Never block.” I will let you know the result in a few days. -
Hi Don, thanks for checking that setting, and let me know if that resolves the problem for you. If not, I’ll be happy to keep investigating this.
Also, don’t worry, I do take days off! :)

Rachel, as I stated above, I changed Safari preferences from “Block cookies from third parties and advertisers” to “Never block.” However, it sometimes snaps back to “Block.” I don’t know why.
Over the past month I have made many comments on various blogs. 90% of them post normally. The other 10% lead to “Sorry, this comment could not be posted.” However, every time this happens I copy the comment text, refresh the browser (click the circular arrow), paste the text into the comment field, and then all is well. Since I have this work-around, in the right column I changed unresolved to resolved.
