Cannot properly add Blogger as a Verified Service with Gravatar
-
Hello. I came to this forum because that’s where Gravatar directed me.
When I add Blogger as a Verified Service with Gravatar I am taken to the Google permissions page, as I used my Google+ profile to create the blog on Blogger.
I allow Gravatar to access Blogger and a link is created and the service is apparently verified.
However when I clicked the link to check that it lead to my Blogger, it instead leads me to an error page and said I hadn’t allowed access to my Blogger account through permissions.
Searching through my Google+ blogger profile I found no way to enable them, I also tried several more times to use the verified services page to add it and got the same result.
My Blogger account is through blogspot.ca, but I don’t suspect that as the hindrance.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem and perhaps found a solution? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello Eclect0r,
I had this same problem, and I figured out how to fix it; but I can not remember the exact steps that I used, but I can try to help you.
I think that I disconnected my Google+ Profile from my Blogger Profile through the settings in Blogger and/or Google+, and once that was done I waited maybe an hour or so and then I probably went to Blogger to recreate/edit my Blogger Profile; and then I tried adding it again as a Verified Service on my Gravatar Profile, I think.

Once this is all done your Blogger Profile should look something like this:

Hello Timethief,
Eclect0r is talking about an error that happens with Blogger Profiles that are connected with Google+ Profiles and you get an error message when clicking the link that gets added to Verified Services in your Gravatar Profile for your Blogger Profile. ;)
I had this happen to me, it seems to be a problem that happens when an existing Blogger Profile gets replaced/connected with a Google+ Profile and so the old Blogger Profile no longer exists so the link does not work or something like that but I could be wrong, and so I think that I fixed this by disconnecting Blogger from my Google+ Profile; and I went back to using a separate Blogger Profile again, and then I tried adding it again as a Verified Service on my Gravatar Profile and the link worked normally again now that the Blogger Profile was separate/created again.

Hello Timethief,
Actually, maybe this is a different error message and situation than what I am talking about, because I think that the error message that I used to get was something like “This Profile Does Not Exist” or something like that; and so I could be wrong after reading what his error message was again, oops, I apologize (I read too fast). :D
Well, at least Eclect0r will know how to fix this problem, if it happens once the Blogger Profile is properly verified. Hehehe :D

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply. I think the error messages we got are very similar, alongside the suggestion of changing my settings the page also said “profile not available”.
I was going to do what you suggested before I wrote this post but I was worried that changing over to a blogger profile would erase my blog, as it seemed to imply that when I went to change it. I too think that the system is confused by the Google+ profile overtaking Blogger territory.
I have no successfully downgraded my profile to Blogger and will try verifying the service now… Yes, Gravatar now links to the new Blogger profile, but I suppose if I change it back to Google+ it will break. I am ok with not doing that as long as I don’t miss out on any key features.

Hello Eclect0r,
You are welcome. :)
I think that the Gravatar system is only set to recognize the old Blogger Profiles and not those connected to Google+, and so I think that someone working for the Gravatar Team could probably fix this so that the Gravatar system also recognizes the new link when Blogger is connected to Google+ so that we do not have to disconnect from Google+.
Would you like me to add the Modlook Tag to this Topic so that a Staff Member will check out this situation for us?

I just tested trying to add Google+ and Blogger as verified services, and everything worked for me, but I was already logged in under that account.
@eclect0r I have a few questions:
1) Were you already logged in to your Google/Gmail account or did you have to log in to make the connection?
2) When you go to https://plus.google.com/apps do you see WordPress there?
3) On your Blogger settings, https://www.blogger.com/home (click on the gear on the right) have you already connected your Blogger profile to Google+?
My guess is that you have already connected Blogger and Google+ (#3) which I have not, but this is just a guess at this point as I try to figure out what’s going on here.

1) I was already logged in.
2) No.
3) It was previously connected, but I took John Jr’s advice and disconnected it so I could get the blogger link on my Gravatar, I believe if I were to reconnect i to Google + and then try to verify it with Gravatar I will get the same error… Though now that the link/badge works it’s not a bad idea to see what would happen.
Testing.
Ok so now the blogger badge/link links directly to my Google+ posts.
I wish it would just link directly to the blog. -
This looks like it’s all part of Google’s efforts to integrate all of their accounts.
If it helps, you can add a link to your Blogger site in your Gravatar profile by going either to https://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit/#your-links or
https://wordpress.com/settings/public-profile/ -

We have no problem adding Google+ and Blogger separately as Verified Services on our Gravatar Profiles but if you connect Blogger to Google+, the Verified Link for Blogger no longer works because it seems that maybe the Gravatar System only recognizes the old separate Blogger Profile and not Blogger when it is connected to Google+ because the old Blogger Profile is replaced by whatever Google+ sets it to.
So we were wondering if the Gravatar Team could adjust the Gravatar System to recognize/properly link Blogger when connected to Google+, so that we do not have to keep Blogger disconnected from Google+ to get it to work properly as a Verified Service on our Gravatar Profile?
Google seems to be slowly integrating almost all of their services to Google+, and so in the future it may/might no longer be possible to disconnect the two; and so I think that it would be nice if the Gravatar System was updated to recognize this change. ;)
Thank you,

Thanks @johnjronline. I’ve reported the issue to our developers and we’ll see what they can do. :)
