Cannot reach blog using my mapped sub-domain
-
I have set up a mapping to my blog @ innovateblog2.wordpress.com through innovateblog.statoil.com, but I’m unable to reach the blog using the new address. Is there simply a delay before the change is propagated correctly or is something wrong? I’m able to ping the address and get an ip, but neither accessing the ip nor the old or new address works.
I’ve set up the new address as the default domain. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

On a related note. Is there a static IP that can be used to reach the RSS feed for the blog?

Your base WordPress.COM site redirects fine for me to your mapped domain – so you probably did things correctly –
Patience Grasshopper – it can take 24 to 72 hours for the changes to reach the far corners of the internet and settle down – but changes usually start in a few hours – for some reason you will probably be the last person to see the changes.
-
PS – your footer seems to have been removed (Blog at WordPress….) that is a Terms of service violation and can get your blog suspended
your RSS feed is at: http://innovateblog.statoil.com/feed/
There is a RSS widget you can add to your sidebar for those who want to subscribe to your feed
Dashboard >> Appearance >> Widgets

I thought that was the case. Thanks for your reply and thanks for pointing out the footer issue. I’ll restore it immediately.

I need to justify adding the footer back in to my superiors, but I cannot seem to find this requirement in the TOS. I’ve read the entire thing and cannot seem to find anywhere where it specifies that any specific content should remain unchanged or visible. Could you point me to the right place?
-
Not in the TOS per se, but staff repeatedly discourage this practice on the forums. It is also written on this support doc:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions (under “May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?”) -
Ok, I’ll see if they are willing to bend on it, but the TOS should have a point on the subject if not specifically that issue. As far as I can see there is nothing in the TOS right now that allows WordPress or its staff to directly make such requirements.
Do I have to display the entire footer or is it sufficient only to show the “Blog at WordPress.com” part since the design is my own?
-
It’s the whole thing as the Theme gets credit also – you “design” is such a small part as to be not relevant – sorry but the themes are quite complex – you only have the ability to change the look not the feel or function.
I have seen blogs suspended for taking the Footer out – so your boss has been warned.
A lot of internationally know people have their blogs here and seem to have no problem with the footer – so why if I can see someone on the TV and they don’t mind the footer why does your boss have a problem – also even the VIP sites are required to have the footer and they start at $ 20,000 a year. CNN has some of their blogs hosted here as does one of they radio stations I listen to – they all have the footer.

The problem is that it breaks the branding and my boss didn’t like that.
The theme I used was simply a template for custom styles that only placed nice classes and ids on everything so I could style them myself. The theme credit therefore does not seem like a reasonable request imo.
I’ve just cleared it with my boss so there really is no problem here. All I’m saying is that they should have a paragraph on the TOS if they are going to enforce these rules. As far as I can see they really have no right to enforce such restrictions, but then again I’m no lawyer ;)
On a personal note I don’t mind having the footer or some other type of credit to wordpress and the theme designer on the page. These people do a great job and deserve some credit for it.
