cannot reconnect ifttt since upgrade

    When I upgraded my site, it disconnected my ifttt. I do not have 2-step authentication enabled. I have retried it on more than one ifttt account but I keep getting the message: “Could not connect WordPress right now. Please try again later.” No other specifics
    I have been trying to reconnect since August.
    Please help

    Just trying to connect. The Normal way. The old applet disconnected and wouldn’t reconnect. So I tried fresh. Made new applett. Still no luck and just the message, “Could not connect WordPress right now. Please try again later.” No other error message. Nothing.
    Tried doing it from old and new IFTTT Accounts

    We are not familiar with IFTTT and don’t offer any official support for this connection, so there is a limit to how we can help on our end. You mentioned that this issue happened around the time you upgraded to the Pro Plan in August, yes?

    One thing to be aware of is when you upgrade to that plan we need to make changes on our end to add business features such as the ability to upload plugins and 3rd party themes, etc. This moves your site to our business hosting, and changes the underlying (non-public) URL of your site from cptpeewee1964.wordpress.com to cptpeewee1964.wpcomstaging.com and may also affect connections like the one you have now with IFTTT, which may be using your old connection details.

    If you set this up as a new applet instead of trying to troubleshoot the existing one, does this work? Note that you may need to disconnect from IFTTT and reconnect WordPress again as a new connection. If this does not help you may need to reach out to IFTTT for their assistance with modifying your existing applet to work now that your site is on our business hosting.

  • Hi again,

    After a closer look it seems that you may need to provide IFTTT with an application-specific password instead of the password that you use to log in to your account.

    You can do that at the bottom of the page here: https://southernnation.org/wp-admin/profile.php

    This will essentially give IFTTT a separate login that service can use to connect to your site, so you will want to be sure to update the password that IFTTT is using in your applets, and that should allow them to connect.
