Cannot reinstall plugins
-
1. When trying to log onto my site, I received this error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’, expecting T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM in /home/content/99/9934199/html/wp-content/plugins/siteorigin-panels/siteorigin-panels.php on line 70
2. Since that seemed to be related to plugins (similar problems have occurred before), I went to my host (GoDaddy), found the plug-ins folder and deleted it. I could not find a “deactivate” option. I noticed the plugin folder had updates 8/6/18.
3. Once I deleted it, I could log onto my site with no problem.
4. Now I am trying to reinstall my plugins: vaultpress, akismet, jetpack, and site-origin-panels. However, Akismet and Jetpack will not reinstall. I haven’t tried the others and do not know what site-origin-panels is.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there!
It looks as though the website that you require assistance with is a self-hosted WordPress.org site rather than WordPress.com.
This forum is designed to help clients hosted by WordPress.com. For more information on the difference between the two please check out this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org.
If you are in need of support for your self-hosted website you may be able to find an answer on the WordPress.org support page at the link provided: https://wordpress.org/support/ or as an alternative you may want to contact your hosting provider.
Hopefully this helps!
Cheers

Hi there,
That error message is often the caused by a site using an older version of PHP that is incompatible with some plugins.
A lot plugins will run a PHP version check – if they detect the PHP being used isn’t compatible with the plugin, it won’t activate in order to prevent errors.
I’d recommend contacting your hosting company and asking them to update the PHP on the site to version 7 or greater (5.6 at an absolute minimum).
If those plugins still can’t be installed once the PHP version is updated, please try posting your questions in the support forums for those plugins at WordPress.org:
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/akismetSince your site is using the self-hosted version of WordPress(.org), we are unable to provide support for it here in the WordPress.com forums.
If you’d like to know more about the differences between WordPress.com (the hosted service) and WordPress.org (the self-hosted software), please see this guide.
Good luck!
