Cannot remove header image

The media library is empty and yet the header image persists. Help. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to Appearance ->Header in your dashboard. There should be a button to remove the header image. Try that.

No such command. The header image is managed through Appearance>Customize and there is Remove option. There is a No Image Set indication but no controls. Help advises to remove the file from the Media Library. I will have to delete the account and start again, I expect.

You can’t delete your account and if you delete your blog it is gone forever, including the URL.

It could be that image might still be stuck in the WordPress cache. I’ll tag this for staff to follow up. Please be patient while waiting for their response.
