Cannot remove image borders in visual mode
-
Why can’t I remove images borders in the visual editor anymore? Used to be able to. Now, the only way I know how to remove the border is to remove the “class” identities from HTML. For example, it seems now that class=”alignXXXXX wp-image-YYYYY size-ZZZZ” must be removed entirely from the image HTML, since I’ve been unable to discover any alignment or size attributes which will remove the border. Selected “none” in the Display Settings used to remove the border, but this no longer works and hasn’t for some time now (I made notes of the fact on 4 July 2014, 6 1/2 weeks ago).
When a centered image is desired, there is a further complication because using the center tab, even if you previously removed the border, adds the border back by default. You have to remove the center tag from within the image HTML code and place the center tags on the outside.
Shouldn’t one be able to remove borders in the “Image Details” box of the visual editor? I noticed that it was possible to tell the difference between images with and without borders displayed by a difference between the two in the Image Details content. Images with borders have size options in the Image Details box, while those without borders have no size options. Why the presence or absence of size options in the Image Details determines whether a border is displayed is a mystery. But weirder yet is that apparently you have to remove the entire “class” section of the image HTML code in order to remove a border. I tried just removing the size attribute from the class section, but it made no difference. The border remained.
Detailed summary of issues:
1. Borders appear to be added to images by default.
2. Borders may be removed by removing the image “class” identity (class=”Everything within quotation marks”) from the image HTML code, but I’ve been unable to discover a way of removing them in the visual editor.
3. The “Image CSS Class” bar of the Advanced Options section of Image Details is blank in both images displaying borders and those not displaying borders.
4. The “Image Border” width box of the Advanced Options section is blank in both images displaying borders and those not displaying borders.
5. Images which display borders have size options in the Image Details box, while those without borders have no size options
6. The default borders are white by default despite the fact that in the Advance Options section of Image Details the setting is always black by default. Also, attempts to change the color of a border to anything but white fail.Numbers 3., 4., and 5 above combined indicate that the “Image CSS Class” in HTML overrides the settings in the Image Details box of the visual editor, and that you can’t remove the Image CSS Class values in the Image Details box (visual editor). Therefore, you cannot remove image borders while in visual editor mode.

Hello! I’ve tested this a few times, and found that simply setting the border width value to 0 or leaving it blank under Image Details -> Advanced Settings automatically removes the border in Visual Mode. Can you please walk me through some steps to replicate the experience you’re having? Thanks!

@ druesome,
Hi there. Been awfully busy lately. I will try to explain what’s happening more clearly, step by step, ASAP. However, leaving the border width value blank, which is the default setting, has definitely not worked, as I’ve clearly stated above (#4 in the summary) and I’m pretty sure that setting it to 0 was one of first things I tried, to no effect.

Hi! Yes, please get back to me as soon as you can regarding this. Looking forward to it!

druesome,
Still haven’t gotten back to that issue, but today a couple of new, more urgent, ones came up.
The second of those is that my attempts to report the first have repeatedly failed. If you look at my forum homepage you’ll see that my last three submissions, the original and two duplicates, were blocked. The title and text are not displayed, and in the right sidebar, under “About this topic” is the description “Started 44 years ago by Anonymous.”
Not the first time this has occurred when I’ve submitted a support request. Should I contact WP support directly, or can you help?
Luckily I kept a copy of my request. It may be viewed in a draft page on my Songbook site, titled “What happened to the old image attachment page? And why didn’t WordPress tell us about the change?”

Hi. You might have misunderstood my last comment. One of the issues mentioned there is that all of my recent attempts to open a new ticket have failed since about 19 September.
After waiting patiently for a few days for some explanation here or elsewhere, on 23 September I notified WordPress support via email of the failure of my requests to post, saying:
My last four WordPress.com forum request submissions were blocked for unknown reasons. The last three of the four were either duplicates or virtual duplicates of the first of the four.
Facets of the issue:
1. Failure of both the title and content of each of the four most recent requests to display.
2. The title and content are replaced in each of the four cases by the notice “Topic Closed: This topic has been closed to new replies.” notice.
3. At the top of the right sidebar of each failed request is the notice “Started 44 years ago by Anonymous.”Below is a copy of the most recent revision of the original content of the aforementioned WP forum request:
