Cannot see theme preview in admin panel

  I have installed wordpress in localhost using PHP server. Its installed successfully, but I cannot see the theme preview from admin panel. When I click on the preview link under any theme, it gives me the “Index of /wordpress” page instead of the preview. After clicking on activate link, it says that the theme is activated but its actually not seen from different user. Thanks in advance…
