Cannot set up WordPress account

    I’ve joined WordPress on a temporary email address, but I want to join using my permanent Gmail email address. Whenever I try to set up a WordPress account using that address, I’m told I’ll be sent an email yet it never comes through and isn’t in spam. Setting up a WordPress account with this temporary email address worked instantly. Do you know why my permanent Gmail address may not seem to be working for creating an account?

    I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

    Hi there,

    Can you tell us the email address you’re trying to use? Type it on its own line, and it will be hidden automatically so only staff can see it.

    I see the account you used to post this forum thread has a Gmail address associated with it: https://wordpress.com/me/account

    If this is the account and email you’re speaking of, you haven’t received a verification email because you created the account using the Sign in with Google button, and that automatically verifies your account – the purpose of the verification step is to make sure the email address exists/is correct, and that you can receive emails from us, and if you authorize a direct connection between your WordPress.com and Google accounts in this way there’s no doubt that the email you’re using is valid :)

    If you’re speaking of a different account, with another Gmail address where you didn’t use the Google Sign-in feature, then the verification email might be in the Social or Updates folder in Gmail, instead of the inbox. Gmail sometimes routes our emails there.

    Hi thank you for your reply. I’m trying to sign up using another Gmail address.

    I’ve tried both the Google sign in and also entering my email address into the box provided. I’ve tried checking all the different Gmail mail boxes but nothing is there. It doesn’t work trying to sign in through Google either.

    Because of an ongoing domestic abuse situation I don’t feel comfortable posting the email address on here. Is there another way?

    Can you please confirm where exactly are you trying to change the email address? Are you looking at https://wordpress.com/me/account?

    Please share the email address you’re trying to use and our forum software will automatically redact it. It’ll only be visible to me and other staff members.

    Hi there,

    The email you provided is already connected to an account that was created a week ago. Do you happen to remember creating an account using that email?

    If you have access to that email, you can enter that email address in the password recovery tool and reset the password to regain access to the created account. Please check your spam folder for the recovery email if you don’t receive it in your inbox immediately:

    That’s odd, no I don’t remember doing that, I tried to create one but never received any messages so assumed I hadn’t. I have tried to recover my password about 4 times in the last hour but no messages are coming to me or into spam. I’m receiving messages from other people fine but nothing from wordpress

    Using the link that staff-doublebassd shared above, I initiated another password reset request. Please check the email address that you shared with us earlier — if you’re not seeing it in your inbox or spam, it might be in another folder (e.g. updates, promotions).

    I’ve replied to the direct email you sent but not sure if it’s a noreply address so posting on here to:

    I followed your link and it worked, but I’m still receiving nothing from WordPress itself. I just tried to find a new domain name and it required me to register my email address to do it, wordpress said an email has been sent to me containing a link to register but nothing is coming through. I’ve not had one email on this email address from WordPress itself. It’s really causing problems because I basically can’t do anything at the moment to create my site while I’m receiving no mail from WordPress itself.

    Hi there,

    It is not a noreply address, so staff did receive your response and should reply.

    But, like @jonny referenced, since you have a Gmail address, WordPress.com emails are known to end up in your social tab if you have that enabled. It also can commonly be found in your spam folder.

    But either way, if you search for your domain in the general inbox search field, you should be to find the email we sent to you regardless of the folder or tab that it is in.

    Hope this helps. Staff should reach out to soon via email as well.

    The issue may be due to the number of periods . you have in your email. let us know if you are still unable to find the email and we’ll look further into this issue for you.
