Cannot take my localhost version of my wordpress site online

I’m a beginner with WP, and this is my situation. I downloaded WP to my machine, and began creating a site on my browser, which was pointed to localhost. So I imagine that all of my files are being stored locally. Once I logged into the wordpress site (online), I was no longer able to find or edit the page that I built (I even get a 404 error when trying to load this site on localhost).

Now when I am logged into my wordpress site online, my site that I was building locally is not there, it only brings me to a empty dashboard.

So my questions are: Is there any way to get this local page to mysite.wordpress.com, or do I have to rebuild it? Or would I be better off creating my own domain somewhere else, and then ftp this local version?

    Thanks for your help.

    1) You go to the dashboard Tools page of your local install, create an export file, go to the Tools page of the WP.com blog here and Import and that should get the contents over here.

    2) You can’t use FTP on a WordPress.com blog anyway.

Ok, all that makes sense. The problem that I am having now is that I get a 404 error when I try to launch my wordpress site locally now. I am trying to do this through Microsoft WebMatrix. Is there some reason why my localhost address may have changed?

I cannot help you with a local install.
