Cannot Transfer Domain from SquareSpace
-
I want to transfer my domain fully to WordPress from Squarespace. Upon going through the unlock/transfer process, WordPress would not let me pay for the transfer without buying a plan. Each time I tried to delete it out of my cart it would reappear.
Eventually after getting so annoyed I decided to cough up the money for the plan (assumed it needed this), after giving payment info, I recieve the error message: This upgrade is not available for Jetpack site.
I just want my domain transferred, preferably to a free layout and account. Any suggestions?

Hey jglowartistry,
First of all, I hope you understand that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different platforms. To know more, please read this.
If you want to use WordPress.com, to transfer your domain, you require any of the paid plans, the free plan doesn’t allow you to use a custom domain.
You can either map or transfer your domain from Squarespace to WordPress.com.

My understanding here is that there’s a former business plan site that’s stuck in the account, and that needs to be converted back to undo the business state so that you can upgrade the site and bring your domain back over. I’m tagging this with modlook for a staff member to assist you with this.

I tried to even buy the premium plan and the transfer still did not go through from Squarespace. I received the error message: This upgrade is not available for Jetpack site. -
Let me mention the steps.
1. Check if your domain is 60 days so that you can transfer it to WordPress.com.
2. Buy a paid plan from your WordPress.com account.
3. To move your website from Squarespace to WordPress, you need to export the content from Squarespace and import it to WordPress.com.NOTE: There is no one-click or automated migration process, you have to export and import the file, manually.
4. Once you transfer your content, you can transfer the domain; it keeps your content safe.
5. Choose a WordPress theme and enjoy your new website. Here is the guide to know the import process at WordPress.com.

Thank you, just to clarify I have no content on Squarespace I want to keep. Everything I had was on WordPress but I cannot access it now.

Hi there,
As Darcie said above, we’ll need to reset your site back to how it was before you installed any plugins in November last year. That would also cause any content you’d added to the site since then to be lost, so please confirm:
1) Do you currently have any content on the WordPress.com site added since November that we’d need to take steps to preserve when reverting your site?
2) Can we go ahead with this process?
-
If you don’t have any content on the Squarespace site, please go ahead already and point your domain’s name servers to WordPress.com – that will allow us to reconnect the domain to your site should we need to preserve any content while putting it through the revert process.

@jglowartistry we were able to revert this for you and keep the content. You should be able to buy whichever plan suits you now.
