Cannot update to 5.6

I have tried to update to 5.6 twice, but the installation fails every time. The update progress text ends after ‘Disabling Maintenance mode…’ with ‘Could not copy file: wp-admin/update-core.php Installation failed’.
Also, now when I try to open my wp-admin page, I get this message over a black background ‘PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ”to’ (T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE) in D:homemywebsitewwwrootwp-adminincludesmisc.php on line 587′.
This doesn’t go away until reset my website with a backup and reinstall WordPress. Only then can I access my wp-admin page.
I am a beginner who is not doing much coding to build my site, so it should not be a mistake with my coding. If it helps, my host is Hostek. I have updated the PHP to 7.0.27.
