Cannot upload images or pictures

I go to Add Media – Choose files to upload then I select the file and click OK then it just sits there. It does not do anything but showing the name of the file. It does not indicate anything.
My blog is hosted by bluehost.com and I have access to everything within my service.
Where do I check what is going on?
I am using Version 2.5.1

I’ve been battling the same issue since yesterday. I would just ftp the images, if the site were for me, but it’s for a friend, who is not internet saavy.
I’ve been stumbling across various recommendations, but nothing has worked thus far. I’m currently doing a fresh install. If I find the solution, I’ll be sure to share.

If you’re not hosted at wordpress.com, you’ll want to check with your hosting company or ask around on the wordpress.org forums.

I’ve got basicaly the same problem: I upload a picture for my avitar, it says it’s done, but when I look at a post of mine or my profile, it acts like I don’t have an avitar. Wierd. Frustrating. All of the above.

Avatars, at least, take a while to propagate through the system. I finally set mine up a few days ago, and it wasn’t showing up consistently (and not at all in my profile) until the next day.
