cannot upload media
-
For some reason why I try to upload new media (pictures) I keep getting an error.
‘1 file could not be uploaded because an error occurred while uploading.’
I only just uploaded pictures a day ago and it was fine, now I cannot. I tried on several different devices, re-sized the picture, uninstalled plugins. Nothing seems to be working.
Please help!
Thank you,
briana

Hi, can you send more info?
– Does this happen in other browsers?
– Is it happening consistently, every time, or just intermittently?
– What kind of internet connection are you using?
– What kinds of files are you uploading?
Let us know and we’ll go from there. Thanks!

Happens no matter what browser I use – Firefox, IE 10 and 11, and Chrome. Since this is my first time using WordPress, I can say that yes this happens all the time. I tried using my internet connection from home and also using a personal hotspot as well as the Internet at the local coffee shop. I’m trying to load a simple picture (JPEG or gif – used both formats) and the size is 185 KB.

Same, happens no matter what browser I am on. HOWEVER! I did use the Wi-Fi at my school yesterday and the pictures uploaded fine. I just do not understand why, all of a sudden, I am unable to upload them from my home internet Wi-Fi?
This is the first time it has happened and it has been 4 days since then…still can’t upload from home.
The files are jpegs.
Thank you

Are you both using wordpress.com/post or wordpress.com/page ? Or are you using the old wp-admin editor?
Also would one or both of you be willing to restart the computer and tell me whether the issue temporarily (or permanently) clears up?
-
I actually tried all three of those sites lol. I also tried restarting my computer twice and to no avail

I have the same issue. I’ve tried different browsers, even different computers. I’ve added media with a free account in the past, but it’s been a while since the last time I tried. Is that no longer a free feature?

I am having the same issue on a newly created WordPress.com blog. When I try to upload an image into the media library while creating a post, I get the following error message:
1 file could not be uploaded because an error occurred while uploading.
When attempting to customize the logo by uploading a new image, I get a different error message:
The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content.
That last error message, plus seeing multiple people post about the same issue today, makes me think there is a bug in a recent change. I am using a WordPress.com hosted blog, so I have no ability to modify upload paths or directory permissions myself, and there doesn’t seem to be a setting anywhere to touch this.

@zyngus and @sarahmmarten we were able to duplicate and fix that issue. Can you confirm it’s now working on your end?
And if the rest of you were getting a similar error can you also confirm?
-
Confirming that the issue seems fixed! Thanks for the fix and updating us here.

I can not upload any media. All I get is an error message all the time. I am away and trying to blog so my family can see. Please can someone help? I paid for the premium site so this is not very impressive.

What error do you get, @miniandsteveinthedeepsouth ?
Or if you don’t want to troubleshoot, you might also try post by email – some folks enjoy that while traveling:
