Cannot use my domain – already paid

    Hi,

    I have used WP for 7 years and my domain is ragutoo.com, I always subscribed a free plan.
    My domain expires August 2023 but I’ve just renewed it.
    A few days ago I tried a €102.00 paid template but it was horrible, really worst than my free plan, so I switched back and cancelled that subscription.
    Unfortunately, after I switched back to my free plan, my domain disappeared and went back to my own name.
    I contacted your customer service by mail, and they said:
    ‘I understand your frustrations and I’m sorry for any confusion caused. Even though you’ve switched back to the free WordPress.com plan, you remain the owner of the domain ‘ragutoo.com’.
    However, to use your custom domain as your primary address on WordPress.com, you’ll need a paid plan. With the Free plan, you are unable to use a custom domain. I suggest you consider upgrading to the Personal Plan..’

    So, I paid for a domain, but to use the same domain, I need to buy another Personal Plan? Since the purchase of the paid template was terrible (the template seemed designed by a child) should I buy another plan while I already paid for a domain? This means I am paying 2 times for the same domain, is it legal? Can you confirm?
    I am thinking to switch to another web host provider because this is misleading, I should have not tried the paid template.

    You are not paying twice for the same domain. You pay once for the domain itself to your registrar, and you pay to use the domain on your wordpress.com website or hosting with a third party hosting provider. This is common practice even for third party hosting companies.

    Paid templates have nothing to do with what you paid for your domain and your hosting. Just as you have to pay to use some third party plugins.
