Can’t Access Account Because Email Has Changed

Hi @elcristofue I’m having the same issues as the OP in this forum: Can’t recover old account | WordPress.com Forums

My blog is https://vtbarcounsel.wordpress.com/ I created the blog and related account – @vtbarcounsel — in 2014 or 2015. I used a work email address that has since changed. I no longer have access to the old one. My employer’s IT department can’t access it because the old domain is not associated with my employer’s current M365 environment.

I created this new WP account to post this request. Could you contact me at the email associated with this WP account? I’d like to access the blog, update my contact information, and continue to use it. I don’t have any of the required proof of ownership. My employer’s IT department is willing to work with you to help me prove who I am. If recovering my account is not possible, and I hope it is, I’d like, at the very least, to have you turn off comments on my old blog.

    Thank you.

Hi @michaelkennedy3b6242a6ee! Thanks for letting us know about this.

I understand you’d like to regain access to your old account, but it seems you no longer have access to the email address linked to it, correct?

If that’s the case, you can complete our account recovery process by following the guide here, where you’ll find the information you can provide to verify ownership and regain access. You can review the steps at this link:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership

On that page, there’s a form where you can submit the required documentation. Please note that for privacy and security reasons, account recovery can’t be handled through the forums.

Please go ahead and try these steps, and let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, we’ll be here and happy to help!

Hi @elcristofue – thank you for the reply. I do not have any of the 3 required proofs of ownership. I didn’t make any purchases and I didn’t set up 2-step authentication. I have the activation key but it is saved in an old email that I no longer can access. That’s the problem. Is there any workaround? Your response in the other forum suggested that there was. Thank you.

There is no workaround for what is outlined in our account ownership process: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership

As mentioned in the guide, the only other option is that you can request that the site be made private.

If there is personal information on your website, you may request that we set it to private so that search engines and the public can’t access it.

Please email us at help@wordpress.com to make this request, and we can follow up.
