can't access blog after url change

I used to have the username speedwayworld, but I haven’t used it for a long time and don’t remember if I ever actually wrote anything on the blog speedwayworld.wordpress.com. Now I want to start writing again and I changed my username to altomsport. When I changed the name it asked me if I wanted to make a new blog url as well. I chose the option that said something like “delete the old blog at speedwayworld.wordpress.com and start a new one at altomsport.wordpress.com. But now in my dashboard it says that I don’t have any blogs. But when I try to create a new blog and type in the domain altomsport.wordpress.com it says that the url is already in use. But if you go to the url it says the blog has been deleted by it’s owner.
Has someone else been using the domain before, and therefore hold the rights to it, or can you help me get access to editing the blog.

Or you can register a domain vis a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.
