Can’t Access New Site or Site Dashboard using Multisite

  • Unknown's avatar

I followed the WordPress instructions in setting up a multisite (copied the code into the wp-config file and the .htaccess file) with subdomains. I created a * wildcard subdomain and then went to create the desired sites on the multisite. However, when I attempt to access the dashboard or the new site I receive the following error:

    ‘Not Found
The requested URL was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.’

It’s frustrating because I haven’t seen anyone else have the same issue. Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you have trouble with your website. However, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Bluehost.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

And for Multisite issues, I recommend asking at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite/#new-topic-0
