can't access old site

    Greetings,
I was going to start a new blog recently but the name I wanted (my own) was already in use. When I checked it out, I saw that it was actually my own site, one that I had started 5 years ago and only posted to once. I thought that I had made it private but obviously I had not. I would love to clear this site and start new, but the problem is that it’s linked to an old email that I have since deactivated.

There’s no way that I can get access to this, right? I’m guessing not since I have no proof of identity, but I just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone has a brilliant suggestion.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
The site in question is this one: https://ashleyellingson.wordpress.com/

    Thanks,
    Ashley

Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard.

Clicking this link should display all blogs registered under the same username, including the hidden ones: https://dashboard.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs&show=hidden

If you do not see the blog here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/ then
    follow this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibility

If the log-in information is lost visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

If you are not successful, then please complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums which are available to everyone with internet access.

It looks that you have exhausted all your options to retrieve your email address. Without having an activated email address, it would be near to impossible to get your blog back.

In these situations, I do not think you will be able to get access to the blog just because you are the owner. Unless and until you are able to prove your identity [through email], it is going to be impossible task.

the best option available for you at the moment is to register a domain. The Domain is available :)

You can install WordPress on your domain and VIOLA you have a wordpress installed on a domain which you own and you will be the owner of the blog.

    Hi,
Thanks for the response. Yes, that’s what I thought but I appreciate the confirmation. It’ll just have to float out there forever, then. :)

    Thanks,
    Ashley

There are 3 options asked by the wordpress recovery.

Do you have a transaction ID? What’s this? If you made payment through paypal you can surely use this option.

Do you have an activation URL or key? What’s this? Since you do not have access to your email, this option is not feasible.

Do you have two factor authentication codes? If you set up this one, you can surely proceed.

@gingerashley If you do not have access to 3 options you can recover your account. However, if you do not have it would be difficult to retrieve login details on your new email address.

    @gingerashley

Please complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums which are available to everyone with internet access.

That’s exactly what Support Staff will tell you to do to recover access to https://ashleyellingson.wordpress.com/ when they get to this thread, so there’s need to waste any time here.

    Hi,
Yes, the problem is that I don’t have any of those proofs of ownership that they require in order to recover access. Based on what they say on that form, it sounds like I’m out of luck without them. I am trying to get access to the deleted email account, which may be my only option. We’ll see if that will yield any results! If not, I’ll try that form without proof, just to see if they can help. Thanks again.

    Hi Ashley,

As timethief mentioned, the account recovery form is the best way to go forward with an issue like this — that way our recovery team can discuss your options privately. You can include an explanation in the “Extra Details” section at the bottom of the form if you need to explain the situation.

@seoexpertindia55 — Thank you for trying to help in this forum thread. In the future, please refer anyone experiencing issues with accessing an old site or account to our Account Recovery guide, including the account recovery form timethief mentioned. That way, staff can privately discuss or explain the options for recovering access. :)
