Can’t access pages designed via WordPress from original NolijWork site
-
Hi, we’re exploring some other web-design/hosting software, and have temporarily spun up a new site and switched our A-records to point to that.
However it appears that WordPress is no longer able to provide access to our old pages to review/edit.
How can we get to see / edit etc our WordPress assets from the WordPress Admin area – because presently NOTHING is showing there…
Has WordPress deleted these assets?
Thanks. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Your files are still available here at WordPress.com. But, by changing your domain A record, you’re redirecting traffic from your site here to another IP and your NS records are pointing to GoDaddy. This effectively removes your access to your site’s wp-admin area as that relies on your domain pointing to the WordPress install here.
To fix this, you should remove that A record and point your NS back to WordPress.com:
ns1.wordpress.com ns2.wordpress.com ns3.wordpress.comOnce those nameserver changes propagate, you should see your site here again and be able to access the wp-admin area.
If you’re exploring other options, they should be able to provide you with a temporary domain for testing purposes so you don’t break your current site.
In the future, since you have a Business plan, you have access to priority email and live chat support. You can access this priority support from your account page, where you can get help more quickly than by posting in the free public support forums.

I hope that clarifies things!

Actually – this isnt particularly helpful
- We can’t access online assistance via email or chat, for the exact same technical reason – the email & chat options both indicate “unknown site” – and stops me from submitting the issue via those channels – which is why I was forced to resort to posting in the community as the last remaining option.
- Surely WordPress must support a mechanism to allow site owners to access their own site (& pages) using something other than the live domain address?
- We are now live on the other hosting platform, and want to stick with that to see how that performs. It makes zero sense that I can’t access WordPress and my old site & pages, to see whether we want to upgrade those or not…
- This feels like lock-in.
- My point is that I should NOT be forced to have our production website running on WordPress – just to get support or to view or edit our existing site pages?
-
Finally – to your point that other vendors “If you’re exploring other options, they should be able to provide you with a temporary domain for testing purposes so you don’t break your current site.”
How does WordPress address this exact same problem, when I have switched our live site to a competing product?

Hi there,
Thanks for clarifying what you are trying to set up. I have set the primary domain to nolijwork.wpcomstaging.com so you can access the front end of your WordPress.com site.
Additionally you have full access here:
We can’t access online assistance via email or chat, for the exact same technical reason – the email & chat options both indicate “unknown site” – and stops me from submitting the issue via those channels – which is why I was forced to resort to posting in the community as the last remaining option.
I wanted to clarify that we are only able to help with sites that are hosted directly on WordPress.com, but we are not able to help with nolijwork.com now that it is hosted with another provider. Our support tools do not work on sites that are hosted on other server infrastructures.
However, if you have any questions regarding nolijwork.wpcomstaging.com, now that I have set the WordPress.com site to use it’s backup address you should be able to access priority support under the Business Plan here: https://wordpress.com/help/contact
Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.
