Can’t access pages frome HOME menu

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

For some reason I cannot access my pages from the HOME page’s left menu when I click PAGES. Instead, it takes me to a page that say “You havent published any pages” even though the header menu (which lists Pages, Drafts, Scheduled, and Trash) shows “9” under Pages count.

I found, in the meantime, that I can access my pages through WP ADMIN>dashboard>At a glance>Pages which is fine for now, but why can’t I see my pages directly from HOME>PAGES, as I should be able to?

    Thanks for your assistance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @emilysmah

Instead, it takes me to a page that say “You havent published any pages” even though the header menu (which lists Pages, Drafts, Scheduled, and Trash) shows “9” under Pages count.

Maybe it was set to show the latest posts rather than a static page. Your site only has the default posts here: https://wordpress.com/posts

Right now, when I click it I see a “Welcome to my Page” with an embedded Vimeo (which incidentally isn’t loading for me – you’re welcome to upload the video directly if you’d like). Is that what you wanted to see for the front page?

Let us know how we can help. And, just to acknowledge your other thread, I’m trying to sort out why your support form isn’t working properly. You’re welcome to work with us here directly if you’d like, or this form should work:

    Cheers!

Thanks a bunch @supernovia! Since you already have an idea of my issues, I hope you are ok if I continue here for now. :-)

So, I realized that when I click on SWITCH SITE (upper left corner of side menu), there’s a dropdown menu which lists 3 sites: http://www.emilysmah.com, http://www.emilysmah.wordpress.com (marked as “coming soon”), and http://www.emilysmahdotcom.wordpress.com (I discovered that this 3rd one, by the way, is where my pages reside! AND it’s here where I can send an email to support without issue).

However, when I click on SWITCH SITES *then* select Manage Sites (Bottom left corner of side bar), it pulls up a different list of 3 websites: 2 duplicates of http://www.emilysmah.com (one shows as being free and the other as paid), and one called: Emilysmah.wordpress.com.

I have no clue what is going on.

BACKGROUND: I started with WP.com hosted by BlueHost and moved to wordpress hosting last month. I followed the instructions to bring over my content and it was done BEFORE I upgraded to a paid plan in order to do a registrar transfer of my domain name: http://www.emilysmah.com I have a feeling this is somehow a factor in all of the issues. Will that help you, help me ? :-)

If you think I should send a direct case through the emailed support, let me know.

    Thanks again!

  • Ah, thanks @emilysmah — I’d bet you’re exactly right. We’ve got a Jetpack connection for the old Bluehost site.

    • Do you want us to migrate subscribers and stats for you?
    • May we then disconnect the old site to see if that resolves the issue?

Also, is the menu situation sorted for you now?

  • Unknown's avatar

@supernovia Yes, please, can you help me disconnect the old site to see if that resolves the issue (which includes the menu situation- see below)? No, it is not necessary for me to migrate subscribers and stats.

**The menu situation is not really sorted out because the correct menu, with the correct access to PAGES, is under the incorrect site name: emilysmahdotcom.wordpress.com. Agsin, it should be available under the emilysmah.com site.

    (fingers crossed!) Thanks!

  • Ok, we’ve disconnected the old Jetpack connection now! You should be seeing your pages available in the WordPress.com interface for your site here now; and as long as emilysmah.com is the primary address, you’ll see the pages listed for it instead of for the basic site address emilysmahdotcom.wordpress.com.

Awesome! It works now – thank you very much!!

One quick question, I see that the WP ADMIN is no longer an option on the side menu. Should it be?

  • Hey there,

One quick question, I see that the WP ADMIN is no longer an option on the side menu. Should it be?

Is this after signing into wp-admin, you wouldn’t normally see this, you should see Dashboard.

Are you referring to what you’re seeing in WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @aleone89 Yes, I am, referring to what I see in WP.com .

Per my first post in this thread, I was able to see it. I don’t know if this option was removed after my old (BlueHost) Jetpack connection was disconnected.

**I know it’s a long thread, but the history I what I am referring to is all there. If you skim that, it’ll catch up up to speed on where I’m at. :-)

    Thanks in advance.

Hi again, just wanted to clarify that I do see now, under quicklinks (right of my WP home page), the WP ADMIN option. My question is why does it no longer appear on the left side menu.

How can I get it to appear there? I don;t see an option to add or pin it.

  • Hi there, are you able to share a screenshot of what you are seeing? I think it will help since I’m not sure exactly what page you are on. Also if you can share a link to the page we can take a look and compare to your screenshot in case there are any differences.

Also out of curiosity are you referring to something you were accustomed to seeing when emilysmah.com was on Bluehost? We use a different version of WordPress here (one that is optimized for our managed hosting) so there can be some differences related to that.

We’ve duplicated most wp-admin functionality you see here in our WordPress.com dashboard: https://wordpress.com/home/emilysmah.com

However if you wish you can still reach the wp-admin dashboard directly here: https://emilysmahdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    Thanks!

OK, thanks. Perhaps it has to do with the WP version (BlueHost vs WP.com). As long as I can access my dashboard from the home page quick links, I’m good. Thanks again. I will mark this thread as resolved. :-)

  • I’d bet it is. We emphasize our dashboard here, but if you’re struggling to access anything you needed from wp-admin, let us know. Glad to see this is resolved!

  • Oh — also, just to clarify, is the help center email issue taken care of now, too?

  • Unknown's avatar

@supernovia Yes! Once the Jetpack was disconnected, everything worked, Thanks again!!
