Can’t Access Site

  • Unknown's avatar

When I click on ‘My Site’ it says to check my primary site’s jetpack connection but when I click the wp-admin link it says the page doesn’t exist. I haven’t logged in in a while and my site is currently not being hosted but I wanted to work on it a bit before I paid for hosting again. My url ‘samhandwich.com’ also brings me to a Songster ad page which I did not do so I’m not sure how they’re using my domain. How can I access my site on WordPress again?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there,

samhandwich.com is not hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

To access the site you would need to go to: samhandwich.com/wp-admin not WordPress.com

Thanks for the reply. I was hosting with A Small Orange but let it lapse for a bit. I’m looking to get the site back but everything is gone. samhandwich.com/wp-admin says page not found. Why is there an advertisement that shows up under my domain? And where did all my site info go? When I try to look at all my content and edit the site through WordPresss, like I have in the past, there is nothing there. It’s like someone deleted everything so theres noothing to even host anymore.

  • Hi there,

As mentioned above, we can’t help directly because we don’t host samhandwich.com on our WordPress.com managed hosting. We’re not connected to A Small Orange, and they are an independent company that also happens to offer WordPress sites. While we do have backups for sites hosted here on WordPress.com. we do not have historical data for sites hosted with other providers.

It sounds like you may have let your account with the lapse, and they may have placed a redirect on your site URL as a result. I would recommend contacting their support department to ask for their assistance in bringing your site back online. They may have internal backups they can employ to help restore the site.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for the reply, Totoro!

I will contact A Small Orange regarding the redirect but I’m talking about wordpress.com when I say that my WordPress account doesn’t have any of my site info anymore. Is it because I’m not hosting the domain right now? Because I was under the impression even without it being hosted I am able to access all my posts and whatnot on wordpress.com without the site being hosted. Is the jetpack error I’m getting solely because the site is not being hosted? Why would my site disappear from my WordPress account and how would I edit it (or even find it) before hosting?

If the site wasn’t hosted at WordPress.com then any content would have been on servers of the company you used ie: A Small Orange. If you or they didn’t take backups the content is most likely gone.
