Can't Activate my Widgets
-
I am using Tuned Balloon Theme and I am having a hard time adding content and widgets. I can add widgets in the Customize mode (meaning the main page customizer that appears on the right of the page)and they publish to my page but it limits me to adding things to the footer or the right column. When I try to add widgets to the left side bar or center they do not show up on my page at all. I am using the widgets page in the appearances section- I followed the instructions but it did not post my changes- I tried the other widgets and they wont post either. In other words the most basic editing feature works but not the main widgets editor
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Could you confirm for me that the directions you followed to set up your widgets were located on the Tuned Balloon support page below?
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/tuned-balloon/support/
Scroll down the page until you see Home Page setup information, and you’ll be instructed how to move forward from there.
Once you are setup, and have widgets installed at Appearance → Widgets, if you’re still having problems, let me know and I can assist in fine-tuning from there.
Also, I thought you might like the link directly to the Tuned Balloon Support Forum, where the theme’s developers check in to see if users have questions:
http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/tuned-balloonI hope this all helps. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks much.

I am in fact using this correctly however I cannot get my choices to publish- I am trying to set up Eventbright and it connected fine with the pull down menus but it will not post in my left hand column.
-
So it was because I needed to set the front page as a static page- that’s why the widgets did not work
-
Exactly. The demo layout for Tuned Balloon requires a static front page. I’m so glad you managed to fix your issue. If there’s anything at all I can help with, please do let me know!

Ok- on tuned Ballon they sell tickets ioff the front page and has a bar that says buy tickets- I want the same thing on my site- I already set up Eventbright but it puts this useless calendar on the page that looks different than the original theme and it doesn’t seem to have a way to buy tickets- it says list then that awful Calender. What can I set up to be like the original theme?
-
Hi again!
In order to add the code you’d need to create a Buy Tickets link, you can paste the following into a Text Widget in your preferred sidebar:
<a class=”more-link” href=”http://www.wordpress.com/”>Buy Ticket</a>
Of course, you’d replace the WordPress.com link with a link to your Eventbrite page.
That should do the trick. Let me know if I can help further. Cheers!

That worked just fine thank you! My next task is to get pages the way I want them- there are 4 pages in addition to my home page- I want one page to be free flowing for blogs and news but the others static- now only the front page is static- I went back into reader and was confused that the button for static page also says frontpage- I don’t want to make them all the home page. also- the widgets menu looks like it only puts widgets on the front page- how do I put them on the others?
-
Hi there!
You can decide whether or not your front page is static, or if will display your blog posts.
The setup instructions are here:
en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/Then, you can create all the static pages you want by clicking Pages → Add New.
also- the widgets menu looks like it only puts widgets on the front page- how do I put them on the others?
You currently only have widgets installed in your Home Sidebars. You need to add widgets to your News Page sidebar to have them appear in the right sidebar on other pages as well.
Give that a try and let me know how it works for you!

I already created the pages but they are not static- how do I make them static’without making them the front page- I am referring to reader?
-
Also- I don’t understand the part about installing widgets- do all of the pages after the front page have to have the same widgets and can one be static and the others not ?
-
Hey there!
I think there might be some confusion about the terminology: all Pages created at Pages → Add New are static. Static simply means that you create content on them, publish them, and they always remain the same unless you edit and resave them. For instance, your pages — About, Contact Us — are static pages.
On the other hand, your News page is not static. It is dynamic. This is because the content displayed there changes automatically everytime you create a new post.
If you want your pages to appear in a certain way, and you’re having difficulty displaying them, please explain specifically what you want your visitors to see.
You said:
I am referring to reader?
I am not sure what you mean by this. Can you please explain?

You can configure on which pages widgets appear using these instructions:
