can’t add categories

  Hi,
  I am new to this site. I am just trying to set up a few categories for my posts, but when I try to do so it just comes up with a message that I do not have permission to do that. What? It is my blog, why can’t I add categories?
  Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.
  I am trying to do it from the dashboard >Manage>Categories>Add New.

  That’s the correct way to do it. There has been an intermittent problem with categories, and I recommend that you send in a feedback about the issue.

  In the meantime, try this: go to Edit the post and see if you can add categories in the side column add box, on top of the categories.

  Also, note that you can’t add categories without tagging a post with the category; ie you can’t just put it in there for future use. It has to always be tagged to a post.

  I think the problem is that I was trying to do it for future posts. I tried to add the category during editing a post too.
  So how do I tag posts with the category? I’ve tried to look it up to no avail..

  You can add a category without tagging a post with it, it just won’t show up in the categories widget until something is tagged.

  @emarsden: You just use the category checkboxes to the right of the edit window to tag your posts. That’s where you can add them, too.

  I’ve tried adding the categories there as well but it just reloads when i press add without actually adding the category.
  I am sending in feedback to see if they can do anything about it,
