Can’t add category
-
I was trying to add a category from the Manage/Catagory/Add Category tab. However when I submit the category and click the submit button then nothing gets added and a display shows that I do not have the permission to do that. Even though I am the administrator of my blog. Any help?
-
You can’t add a category until you’ve tagged a post with that tag, is how I understand it. So edit one of your posts and type that category into the category box, then click ADD. That’s the only way I know how to do it.
-
Now I did that too. While I edited the post, I added a category to the right pane and clicked ADD. The category doesnt show up in the list of categories. So weird!

Strange. I’d suggest sending in a feedback on Monday if it’s still not working. I’ve done this several times today alone and it seems to be working for me. Must be something technical.

What browser and version are you using? There’s already a couple of threads mentioning issues with IE7 and the add category procedure. I believe staff is aware of the issue.
One of the reasons why I still have a copy of Netscape 7.2 installed. :)
If you’re really stuck, add me in as an admin for your blog (theapparatus at gmail dot com) and drop me an email with what you want added.
Hope this helps,

I am also having the issue with not being able to add new categories/tags for any new or existing post. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.9.
I get the error ‘You don’t have permission to do that.’ when I type in a new category and press Add

I’d like to 3rd that! lol I’m also receiving the error message, “You don’t have permission to do that.” Can’t seem to delete categories either…Any solutions yet??
I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.1. Thanks!

I could have sworn that I just made a post about this. It may be an issue since there are a few folks discussing it.
Hmm, strange. Just worked for me fine using Netscape 7.2.
It has happened in the past. Solution has been to send in a feedback and point this out to staff.
Oh, and actually reading the thread that you’re posting in as well as the what to do when this happens is discussed up there. :)

@casualmusings – Thanks for coming back and telling us your issue was resolved.
@ggwfung
Are you still having a problem? If so then:
(1) Have you tried force clearing your browser?
Windows – IE or FF – crtl F5
Macs – FF – Cmd-Shift-R
(2) Which browser and which version of firefox are you using please? WordPress usually works well with IE7, FF2 and Opera 9. Safari, IE6 and FF 0.1.9 have issues. If you haven’t upgraded your browser please do so. -
timethief,
I tried the workaround that casualmus suggested
1) use ie7
2) hit enter instead of the “add button”clearing the cache for Firefox did not work.
So this “hack” does get around it, but I think there is a deeper problem here. I haven’t changed any browser settings in the last 24 hours, and none of these people seem to either.
thanks for being on call (I can’t get to feedback support)

I have the same problem. I can’t add categories to an edited post. I get a big red box saying, “You don’t have permission to do that.”
I’m on a Mac with Firefox 2.0. I cleared the cache. Logged out and back in.
Adding categories worked fine earlier in the day so this is definitely broken.
Support is closed so I can’t send feedback.
UPDATE: Just tried it again. Adding categories worked this time! Didn’t change anything on my end. Just gave it another shot.

Hello
I have a correct for the category problem.
1. go to “Manage”
2. click Categories
3. on that page (Hit Control F-5)This also work on the Presentation – Sidebar Widgets, if you go to that exact page where you add – delete boxes, hit the Control F-5 it will release the page and allow changes. Mark added that correction earlier. I just used it on Categories.
That will refresh the page – you can then add new categories. This correct key stroke seems to free up Fire Fox issues that I had earlier.
Have a good night

I found a solution, at least on my end. I need to access my site via the non-www version (ie. example.com instead of http://www.example.com). I had an htaccess rewrite that sent everything to www. I guess I’ll need to reverse that now.
