Can’t Add Credit Card to buy shipping label

Hello, I use WooCommerce on my website and it has the new feature to buy shipping labels directly from the WordPress Admin panel. I set the package options and clicked ‘Add credit card’. I tried adding an AMEX credit card multiple times and it said my card was declined. I called my bank and they did whatever it is they do to set the card to less restrictive settings. When I went back into ‘Create shipping label’ and selected the ‘Add credit card’ button, I am taken to a new page just like before but this time I get a new error (before I’ve entered in my credit card) and that error is:
‘Error preparing new payment method configuration. Please contact support quoting error HYTFSI.’
So now I don’t know what to do to continue forward and get this to work.

Well, if it turns out to be a similar problem as in this thread, the Staff member said waiting 12 hours to let the card “cycle out”?

Yes, it might be worth waiting some time but if the error persists. Try contacting WooCommerce’s team directly. Either via https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/, or https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce/.

If it helps, I still get the exact same error here on wordpress.com
In the upper right I click on my profile Icon, then from the list on the left I select “Purchases” and then at the top of the page that loads select “Payment Methods” and click the “Add payment method” button. I am presented with a pop-up error dialog in the top right that says “Error preparing new payment method configuration. Please contact support quoting error HYTFSI.”
So I don’t think it’s exclusively a WooCommerce issue.

Can you confirm that everything is A-ok with this payment method?
The reason why I ask is because I don’t see any hindrances here at WordPress.com that would result in a purchase being made or a payment method being changed.

The very first time, when I was able to actually enter my credit card information, that was 100% being blocked by the credit card company. I got both a text and email about suspicious activity and a charge from “WPCHRG.COM” at location “SAN FRANCISCO, CA” for “$0.10”.
I assume that was Word Press trying to do a test charge (hence “WPCHRG.COM”) to ensure the card was valid, but since the bank flagged it that’s when I got my first notification in the WordPress Admin panel that the card was declined.
I called and spoke the cc. company and confirmed the attempt was an authorized/valid charge and the cc company cleared it and set the card to a “less restrictive” setting and told me it should no longer decline that charge.
But now, I can’t get back to the page to even enter my credit card information to see if it is still being declined because of the new error that pops up, as I described above:
“Error preparing new payment method configuration. Please contact support quoting error HYTFSI.”

And for the record, at the time of this writing, WordPress is still giving me this error, which has been more than 12 hours since my first attempts and calling my credit card company.

Thanks for confirming that with your bank. I’m going to have our payments team take a closer look into this and I’ll update this thread once we have more information.

Our Payments team reviewed things on our end and it looks like the temporary block on your payment method – which was due to you trying it many times in a short period of time – should have expired by now, so you should be able to make that purchase now.

I was successfully able to load the page this time (no “HYTFSI” error) and then the card was successfully added as a payment method (only declined once because I fat fingers some numbers).

By the way, I had read in another thread that PayPal was an accepted Payment Method (which I prefer because it helps reduce the _large_ number of sites I have to update my card when it is inevitably compromised by some site’s lax data security) but I only saw one selectable radio button and that was to add a “Credit or debit card”. I presume PayPal has been removed as a payment method? (I am currently using Firefox v87.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10 Pro v20H2 if that matters).

PayPal is only available for WordPress.com plans and other upgrades. For WooCommerce.com purchases only credit or debit cards are accepted.

Well, even here on wordpress.com when entering a Payment Method, there was no PayPal selection, only Credit/Debit.
But anyway, thanks for the help on the error. I suggest setting that error timer/reset to be WAY less than what it was/is as surely I won’t be the last posting about this same “problem”.
