Can’t Add New Categories

    When I try to add categories via Manage >> Categories, and I hit “Add Categories,” the text I input dissappears but no category is added.

    The same thing happens when I try to add categories via a Write >> Post page. What can I do about this?

    I would suggest searching first to see if any of those other threads help you.

    You may also want to state your browser, browser version, and OS as that would help.

    I’ve been searching for the past 3 days. None of the threads helped me. When I don’t find an answer by searching, I post here.

    Both IE7 and Firefox 1.0.5.7 (or whatever) have the same problem. I use Windows XP SP2.

    I have this problem too, but it appears only in internet explorer….you can check off categories and everything but you just can’t add any new ones, I even get the little red X’s when uploading my avatar in IE but not firefox like you do. Install the latest firefox…they are at version 2 you are way behind

    I’m having the same problem using firefox 2.0.0.1 on macos 10.4.8….
    i just joined wordpress today and this is my first blog…

    Same problem. My new blog has been up for 3 days and this just started happening about an hour or so ago. [Firefox 1.5.0.3, Debian GNU/Linux (Sarge) 3.1]

    Here are some more details on the problem:

    Once I add a category and click the “add category” button the “Category name” field is cleared as you would expect. However, the category goes into a bit bucket somewhere, it doesn’t show up in the category list in site admin or on my blog.

    If I do a page refresh or click on one of the site admin tabs (e.g. dashboard), I get the “Confirm” popup — the one that asks, “Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?” with OK and Cancel buttons. This is truly odd behavior and I hope offers a clue to what is wrong. This only started happening when the disappearing category issue arose.

    I have tried quiting my browser and restarting. The problem is easily repeatable.

    Needless to say, a blog to which you cannot add categories is not functional. Any ideas anyone has to debug this will be very much appreciated.

    Just adding a note that I can’t add a new category either.
    I could only describe my problem as the same exact one being described about.
    However, I’m not sure about this. My blog might not be auto-saving drafts either.

    This was related to the bug that caused some to be unable to post or manage posts. In any event, it should be fixed now so if you still have problems with categories, please send in feedback and we will take a look.
