Can’t Add Pages Widget
-
I just started using the new Grid Focus theme with my Book-Driven Life blog, and something is weird with the widgets. I want to put the Pages widget on either the Primary-Index sidebar or the Secondary-Shared sidebar — I don’t care which one. The problem is that the Pages widget does not have the “Add” button next to it for either of those two sidebars — which would seem to indicate that I have already added that widget. But I haven’t. The Pages widget is not on my blog, not on either of those sidebars, *and* it’s not listed on the Widgets page on the drop-and-drag list where you can change the order of the widgets.
Help will be appreciated. I have no idea what the problem is.

Go back to your old theme and remove all the widgets from the sidebar (making sure to save any content you have in text widgets to a plain text file), save the changes and then switch back to grid focus and start adding them back in.

Well, I thought this problem had been fixed according to what staff had said, but apparently it is not completely fixed.
You can try shortcutting it and just switch to another theme (activate it) and then switch back and see if that does it, otherwise at the very least you will have to switch back and remove the pages widget, save the changes and then switch back to grid focus and add it back in.

I take it this is a problem with the Grid Focus theme itself, and not with my having overlooked some obvious setting change. That’s actually a relief to me. :-)
I will do as you suggest (round two), and if switching to another theme and switching back doesn’t work, I’ll just switch to another theme, period, until the Grid Focus glitch is fixed.
Thanks, sacredpath.

You’re welcome, but it is not only grid focus. It can happen anytime you switch to a theme with a different number of sidebars from the one you were using. Like I said, I thought it had been fixed.
The whole widgets section will be getting a complete redesign as I understand it and I expect things will be much better once that change hits, but I have no idea when that change will be. Only wordpress knows and they never tell.

Well, I switched to Andreas04 and I decided for now at least to stay with it, because I really like it, and so far I don’t have problems with the widgets.
