Can’t add site redirect

  • Unknown's avatar

Is there a reason why a domain purchased through WordPress.com can’t be used for a Site Redirect? It has correct A and AAAA records. But redirect form keeps saying ‘There is a problem adding Site Redirect that points to xxx’.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hi there!

I’ll be happy to help you with this. Can you give us specific details so that we can troubleshoot this further? For example:

    1. Which site do you want to purchase the Site Redirect on?
    2. What’s the destination address for the Site Redirect?

Generally speaking, you can purchase a Site Redirect on any WordPress.com site and redirect it to any domain/site/address (even outside WordPress.com). It may not work if the domain you want to redirect to is on the same site, though. That’s why we need the details above to understand what kind of setup you’re going for and figure out why it may not be working.

    Thanks!

    Site is: blindjournalist.wordpress.com
    Domain is: robertkingett.com

Your Twitter support said there seems to be an issue on the backend and domain team is looking into it. FYI.

  • Hey there,

    Many thanks for that information.

Are you trying to redirect blindjournalist.wordpress.com to robertkingett.com?

Additionally, do you intend to host the site: robertkingett.com with WordPress.com?

This additional information should help us toward a resolve.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Yes, redirect blindjournalist.wordpress.com to robertkingett.com – it’s already self-hosted, not on WordPress.com.

  • Got it. It’s because robertkingett.com is connected in our system to that site.

So long as you’ve got robertkingett.com registered with us through that site, you won’t need a site direct. We will automatically 301 redirect blindjournalist.wordpress.com to its specified primary domain.

I’ve set robertkingett.com as the primary domain for you for now, so it should start working as soon as the internet catches up with the changes (or you might need to restart your browser.)

If you decide you want to show blindjournalist.wordpress.com to stop redirecting at some point, you can manage that here.

    Cheers!
