Can’t add text box widget to blog
-
Hi all, I’ve read several similar posts, but none seem to help me. I’m trying to add a text box widget to my blog. Every time I add it, or any other widget for that matter, it destroys the side bar. My site is http://drowningpisces.wordpress.com
Any assistance is appreciated.

Drowningpisces, you already have several widgets in the sidebar (categories, links etc.) Could you explain what you mean when you say adding a widget ‘destroys the sidebar’. What actually happens to it?
Something which might cause a problem is trying to add an image or a piece of html code that’s too wide for the sidebar. If that’s what you’ve done, the sidebar usually drops to the bottom of the page. The way to fix it is to resize the image or to fix the link.

the stuff that is there.. pretty much came with the template. When I go into “presentations” and try to add a text box and then save, when I go back to my page the entire side bar is gone.

What happens if you try to remove one of the widgets that’s already in the sidebar?
When you say you can’t get the textbox there, do you mean that you can’t drag it in on the widgets page, or just that when you’ve dragged it and saved changes it doesn’t appear?
And can you check whether the sidebar really is totally gone, or whether it’s just moved to the bottom of the page?

Once you add a new widget to the sidebar, yes, all the stuff in the sidebar goes away. The default widget arrangement goes away. You need to make a list of all the widgets you want and put them back one by one. It’s a bit of a pain in the butt, but that’s how it is.
