Hello,
I understand your pain as these things can sometimes be so frustrating. What error specifically are you seeing when you try to make changes?
I would suggest looking over the following article which gives great step-by-step instructions on setting up a domain that you own.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Thanks,

Looking at your question, suggest you check the following help page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/setting-custom-a-records/

Hi there,
It looks like you’ve already added an A record to point the domain to GoDaddy, and the domain is loading a GoDaddy site for me. But let me know if you still need any help with this.
If you want to later perhaps transfer your domain to GoDaddy completely, you can see here:
Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar
Domain mapping is used to connect a domain to WordPress.com. Those instructions won’t help for someone who wants to point a domain registered with us to a site hosted somewhere else.
