Can't change email address
-
I need to change my email address, but can’t. When I put in my new email address in my account settings, then click UPDATE, I get the tutorial that “this email address is already in use”.
I’m trying to change my email address to an @icloud.com address that I’ve had since iCloud first came out…no one else has this address, and I’ve never used it here. Any ideas what could be happening?

…the plot thickens.
So for grins, I tried to log in using the email address I want to change to (the one the system says is in use), did a password reset, and was able to login to a second account I didn’t even know I had. I must have created it a VERY long time ago.
So now the problem is I only want one account, but I want the WP username associated with my current account, and I want the email address associated with the old account I didn’t know I had.
If I close out the old account will it free up the email address I want to use for my regular account? Is there some waiting period before it can be used?

Hi larrymcjunkin,
Please try logging out of WordPress.com and log back in using the email address connected to the other account.
Once logged in to that account, please remove the email address from the Account Settings page (by adding another). A confirmation email will be sent to the new address and you’ll need to click on the confirmation link in that email.
The previous email address should then be freed up for use on another account.
If I close out the old account will it free up the email address I want to use for my regular account?
The email address will remain on that account for 30 days before being purged — you wouldn’t be able to use it on another account at that point. But if you don’t want to wait that long, the steps I listed above will be a better option :)
If you have any trouble, please reply here with the email address (which will be hidden from the public) and we’ll be happy to take a look.
